The Kalamazoo Wings , commonly abbreviated to K-Wings , are an American ice hockey team from Kalamazoo , Michigan . The team has played in the ECHL since 2009 . In the National Hockey League there is a cooperation with the Vancouver Canucks .

history

The Michigan K-Wings from the International Hockey League were dissolved after the termination of their cooperation with the Dallas Stars from the National Hockey League . Instead, those in charge of the Michigan K-Wings relocated the Madison Kodiaks franchise from the United Hockey League to Kalamazoo, Michigan, and renamed it Kalamazoo Wings, the name the Michigan K-Wings originally bore. The team completed their most successful season in the 2005/06 season, when they first finished the regular season in first place in the Central Division. In the following playoffs they beat after victories over the Motor City Mechanics and Rockford IceHogs in the final of the Colonial Cup, the Danbury Trashers with 4-1 wins in the best-of-seven series.

In the 2006/07 season, the Kalamazoo Wings were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs in the Colonial Cup final. They then spent another two seasons in the league, which has now been renamed the International Hockey League, before they were accepted into the ECHL on June 9, 2009 .

The Kalamazoo Wings are known nationwide for their themed games. These include the Green Ice Game (on St. Patrick's Day ), Pink Ice Game (on Valentine's Day ), Orange Ice Game (on Halloween ) and the Golden Ice Game (an event sponsored by McDonald’s ).
