The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies were an American ice hockey team based in Atlantic City , New Jersey . The team played in the ECHL from 2001 to 2005 .

history

The Birmingham Bulls from the East Coast Hockey League were relocated to Atlantic City, New Jersey in 2001 and renamed the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. During the four years of its existence, the Boardwalk Bullies' home ground was the historic Boardwalk Hall built in 1929 , which can accommodate 10,500 spectators at ice hockey games. The team completed their most successful season in the 2002/03 season, in which they first finished the regular season in first place in the Northeast Division, before winning the playoffs after victories over the Trenton Titans , Greensboro Generals and Cincinnati Cyclones in the final Kelly Cup beat Columbia Inferno in the best-of-seven series with 4-1 wins.

Despite the sporting success - the Boardwalk Bullies reached the playoffs every season - they got into financial difficulties due to the lack of spectator interest, as even during the championship season an average attendance of just over 3,000 could be achieved. That is why the franchise owners decided to relocate this to Stockton , California , after the 2004/05 season , where it has since participated in ECHL's gaming operations under the Stockton Thunder .
