history
The franchise of the Baton Rouge Kingfish of the ECHL in 2003 inactive. A year later, Canadian businessmen bought the franchise and relocated it to Victoria, British Columbia, where it started playing in ECHL under the name Victoria Salmon Kings from the 2004/05 season. The relocation for the Salmon Kings, who were the first Canadian team in the ECHL, was made possible by the construction of the modern Save-On-Foods Memorial Center , which replaced the outdated Victoria Memorial Arena . From the lockout in the National Hockey League , the Salmon Kings benefited in their debut season, as they were given the opportunity to sign three players with NHL experience with Dale Purinton , Dan Blackburn and Mark Smith . The Canadians completed their last season in the 2010/11 season under head coach Mark Morrison , when they finished fourth in the Mountain Division in the following playoffs for the Kelly Cup after victories over the Bakersfield Condors and Utah Grizzlies in the third round Alaska Aces failed.
In May 2011 the association announced the immediate withdrawal from the ECHL. This happened shortly after a few weeks earlier the Western Hockey League had announced that 17 years after the relocation of the Victoria Cougars to Prince George , British Columbia , a franchise from Victoria would again participate in the WHL's game operations for the 2011/12 season. After the franchise was dissolved, all players became available as free agents .
