Career

Dan Blackburn was selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers in tenth position in the first round. He was also used in the 2001/02 season as a back-up goalie behind Mike Richter and played 31 games. For his good performance he was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team . The following season he was number 2 in the Rangers behind Mike Dunham .

The following season was not particularly positive. Blackburn missed the entire 2003/04 season due to a shoulder injury . The next year he was not used in the NHL , as the season was canceled due to the lockout . During that time he played in the ECHL with the Victoria Salmon Kings .

A month before the 2005-06 NHL season began , the protracted shoulder injury that plagued him turned out to be even worse than it actually was. Dan Blackburn sustained nerve damage in his left shoulder. On September 25, 2005, Dan Blackburn had to end his promising career at the age of just 22 years.

After the end of his career, Blackburn became the manager of the Goaltender Development Institute , which is committed to the promotion and training of ice hockey goalkeepers.
