The Chesapeake Icebreakers were an American ice hockey team from Upper Marlboro , Maryland . The team played in the East Coast Hockey League from 1997 to 1999 .

history

The Chesapeake Icebreakers were founded in 1997 as a franchise of the East Coast Hockey League . After the team was eliminated in her first year in the first playoff round, they lost in the 1998-99 season after a bye and a victory over Columbus Chill until the third round of the Kelly Cup opponent Roanoke Express with 1: 3 Wins in the best of five series. Although they reached the playoffs in both seasons, the Icebreakers received little or no attention from the regional media, resulting in low audience interest. For this reason, the franchise was relocated by its owners to Jackson ( Mississippi ) in 1999 after only two years , where it took part in the gaming operations of the ECHL in the following years under the name Jackson Bandits .
