The Augusta Lynx were an American ice hockey franchise from the ECHL , which was based in Augusta , Georgia .
history
The team was founded in 1998. The home of the Lynx was the James Brown Arena , which has a capacity of 6,604 spectators.
In contrast to most other teams in the farm team leagues , the Lynx belonged to neither an NHL nor an AHL team, but were independent. However, worked from 2006 to 2008 with the Anaheim Ducks from the NHL and the Portland Pirates from the AHL. From summer 2008 there was a cooperation with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Norfolk Admirals .
During the 2008-09 season, the team disbanded after the team owners failed to find new investors.
Trainer
As the first coach in franchise history, Dan Wiebe took over the coaching post in 1998 and led Augusta Lynx through the following two seasons. The greatest success here was reaching the third playoff round in the 1999/2000 season. For the following season, Scott MacPherson was introduced as the new head coach. After 33 game days in which the team showed a negative overall balance, he was removed from his office. As his successor, Jim Burton took over the position behind the gang and led the team with 22 wins in 39 games into the play-offs. After the final round was not reached in the 2001/02 season despite a positive overall balance, Burton was terminated at the beginning of the following season after the team had started with seven defeats in the first ten games.
Then David Wilkie took over the coaching office and could not turn things around until the end of the season, whereby the play-offs took place for the second time in a row without the team from Augusta . In the following two years, the team was looked after by Stan Drulia , who had previously led the Orlando Seals to the championship in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League . After he was not successful either, Bob Ferguson was entrusted with the management of the team. In the three years of his work, he made it into the play-offs, in which the team was eliminated three times in a row in the first round. For the 2008/09 season, John Marks was appointed head coach. After only 18 games, the franchise was dissolved in December 2008. Marks left the team and then went to the Dayton Gems .
