After two seasons with the Albany River Rats in the American Hockey League, the Canadian first signed a contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the 2009/10 season and later in the season with their cooperation partner New York Islanders , for whom he prepared a goal in 14 games. The 2010/11 season began Gillies in the NHL team of the Islanders.
