Stanley W. Drulia (born January 5, 1968 in Elmira , New York ) is a former American ice hockey player who was active during his active career for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League . Since December 2011 he has been the assistant coach of the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League .

Career

Stan Drulia began his active career as a hockey player in 1983 with the Fort Erie Meteors in the Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League . In the following year the attacker joined the Belleville Bulls , a team in the top junior league OHL . After two years for the Bulls, Drulia was selected in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft in the eleventh round at a total of 214th position by the Pittsburgh Penguins . The offensive player continued to spend the following two seasons in the OHL and was with the Hamilton Steelhawks in action. During this time he managed to improve his points yield greatly and to achieve 231 points scorer in a total of 143 games for the Steelhawks. In the following year he ran for the now relocated and renamed Niagara Falls Thunder franchise and was the team's second best scorer with 182 points in 67 games, only his teammate Bryan Fogarty was more successful in the league with 187 points. With the team he reached the finals for the J. Ross Robertson Cup , but lost the series against the Peterborough Petes . In the same season Drulia also completed three games for the Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League , in which he scored two points.

After he was not signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who had selected him in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft, Drulia signed a contract with the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent in February 1989 . However, he was initially denied the leap into the National Hockey League and the attacker was in the 1989/90 season with the farm team of the Edmonton Oilers, the Cape Breton Oilers , in the AHL and the Phoenix Roadrunners in the International Hockey League in action. The following season Drulia was under head coach Don Jackson for the Knoxville Cherokees in the East Coast Hockey League and scored 140 points in 64 games in the regular season . Thus he was the best scorer in the league and in terms of the number of goals scored and assists he was ranked first and third in the league. In the play-offs he failed with the team in the first round in three games against the Louisville Icehawks . The following season Drulia was with the New Haven Nighthawks in the AHL and reached third place in the scorer ranking behind Shaun Van Allen and Tim Tookey . After his contract with the Edmonton Oilers expired, he signed on September 1, 1992 with the Tampa Bay Lightning .

For the franchise's inaugural season, the attacker was in action with the Lightning and completed a total of 24 NHL games in which he scored three points. During the season, however, he was sent to the Atlanta Knights in the International Hockey League and played continuously with the Knights until 1996. In 1994 he won the Turner Cup with the team . In 267 regular season games for the franchise, he scored 161 goals and 352 points. From 1996 to 1999 he spent three seasons with their league rivals Detroit Vipers , with whom he won his second Turner Cup in 1997. In September 1999, Drulia returned to Tampa and rejoined the Tampa Bay Lightning. After he was still a regular player in the 1999/2000 season and played 68 NHL games, he was incapacitated for several months in the following season due to an injury. In the summer of 2001 he ended his active career.

As the first coaching station of his career, Drulia took over the Orlando Seals from the Atlantic Coast Hockey League in the 2002/03 season and led the team to win the championship of the ACHL. The following year he joined the Augusta Lynx from the ECHL . The following two years he was on the gang for Augusta Lynx and failed to make it into the play-offs with the team. The 2005/06 season Drulia spent as an assistant coach with the Toledo Storm in the ECHL. A year later he went to the Port Huron Flags of the United Hockey League , where he worked again as head coach.

In its only season, the team was eliminated from the competition in the first play-off round. He then took over the newly established Port Huron Icehawks franchise from the International Hockey League and led it into the final games of the Turner Cup in its first season. After two more years with the Port Huron Icehawks, he left the team in the summer of 2010. On July 1, 2010, he was introduced as the head coach of the Wheeling Nailers . In December 2011, the American took over the position of assistant trainer for the Milwaukee Admirals .
