Darryl Laplante (born March 28, 1977 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League during his playing career .
Career
Darryl Laplante played from 1994 to 1997 for the Moose Jaw Warriors in Canada's top junior division, Western Hockey League . In the 1995 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round at position 58. In 1996 Laplante was awarded the Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy for special humanitarian behavior . In the 1997/98 season he made his debut for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League , but almost the entire season spent the center on the farm team with the Adirondack Red Wings in the American Hockey League . In the following two years he did not make the breakthrough in Detroit and came in 35 games for the Red Wings on six assists , but remained without a goal. Laplante played the role of the checker , whose job it was to wear down the enemy attacks. He then played in the AHL for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and the Cleveland Lumberjacks in the International Hockey League .
In the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft , he was selected by the Minnesota Wild in June 2000 . Laplante was never used for Minnesota in the NHL and played in the 2001/02 season for the Houston Eros in the AHL. In March 2002 he was transferred to the Boston Bruins and was used in twelve games on the Providence Bruins farm team . In August 2002 he signed a contract as a free agent with the Augusta Lynx in the East Coast Hockey League . There he came to 19 missions and scored six points before Laplante was given to the Jackson Bandits in November 2002 . The 2003/04 season he spent with the Reading Royals before ending his career after nine games and four points.
