Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy
The Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy is an ice hockey trophy that is awarded annually by the Western Hockey League to those WHL players who have distinguished themselves through social or community engagement. The award was first given in the 1992/93 season. The trophy, originally awarded as the Humanitarian of the Year Trophy , was named in 2001 after Doug Wickenheiser , a former Regina Pats player and first overall winner in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft , who died of cancer in 1999.
