In the 2008-09 season , Sylvester made his debut in the Western Hockey League for the Hitmen. There he came with his team to the final series of the playoffs , which was lost. In his second year, the Hitmen again reached the final series, which this time was won in five games. As the winner of the Ed Chynoweth Cup , Sylvester and his team took part in the Memorial Cup 2010 , which was eliminated in the semi-finals. His third season in the WHL was unsuccessful for Sylvester, as he could not qualify for the playoffs with the Calgary Hitmen. For the 2011/12 season he was the captain of the Hitmen and led his team back to the playoffs. With 68 scorer points, Sylvester was able to more than double his performance from the previous year. In his fifth and final year in the WHL, he scored 102 points in 85 games and came with the Hitmen to the conference finals.

In September 2013 Sylvester took part on a tryout basis in the training camp of the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins from the American Hockey League . In October 2013 he finally received an annual contract. During the season he played in both the AHL and ECHL for the Wheeling Nailers . In August 2014, Sylvester signed an annual contract with the South Carolina Stingrays from the ECHL. There he scored on his debut in a 9-1 home win against Krefeld Pinguine after 17 seconds to make it 1-0.

In the summer of 2016 he was signed by the Dornbirner EC from Erste Bank Eishockey Liga . There he played with his brother Dustin Sylvester . In May 2017 he returned to Germany when he was signed by EC Bad Nauheim from the DEL2 .
