Career
Hamill was selected in the 2003 Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League in third place by the Everett Silvertips , but was sent after four games for the Silvertips to the Port Coquitlam Buckaroos in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League . Since the playoffs of the 2003/04 season , Hamill was part of the Silvertips squad. In the 2006/07 season he was awarded 93 points top scorer of the WHL and then the Bob Clarke Trophy . In the same year he was also elected to the CHL First All-Star Team and took part in the CHL Top Prospects Game . In the 2007 NHL Entry Draft , Hamill was selected eighth by the Boston Bruins , with whom he signed a contract in August 2007. From the 2007/08 season he played for the farm team of the Bruins, the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League . He also scored four points in 20 games in the National Hockey League for the Boston Bruins.
On May 26, 2012, the Boston Bruins transferred him to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Chris Bourque . At the end of January 2013, the Caps gave him to the Florida Panthers to sign Casey Wellman . In July 2013, Hamill signed a contract with the Vancouver Canucks and was used for the Utica Comets farm team in the AHL. In December 2013, his contract was terminated and he moved to Barys Astana in the Continental Hockey League . The 2014/15 season spent Hamill at HPK Hameenlinna in the Finnish Liiga . From September to November 2015 he played 17 games in the National League A for Friborg-Gottéron and HC Ambrì-Piotta . On December 11, 2015 Hamill moved to the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League . In his first six games he scored six points scorer. In the further course Hamill sat increasingly as a surplus contingent player in the stands and was no longer used in the playoffs. After the end of the season, his contract was not renewed.
He then worked for IF Björklöven in Sweden, Lørenskog IK in Norway and HC Dukla Jihlava in the Czech extra league.
Hamill has been playing in the DEL2 at EC Bad Nauheim since November 2018 . The contract was extended for another season (2019/2020) in spring 2019.
