Jonathan Boettcher
Jonathan Böttcher (* 1958 in Goslar ) is a German guitarist , singer , composer, lyricist and folk musician.
Live and act
Jonathan Böttcher grew up as the son of a merchant in Dörnten near Goslar in the Harz foothills. He played guitar for the first time at the age of twelve. He broke off his training as a physics laboratory assistant (he actually wanted to become an astrophysicist) at the age of 18, first made street music , then traveled to India for a year, wanted to study music there, took tabla lessons and was interested in Buddhism and Hinduism. Back in Germany he finally found his way to the Christian faith , since then he has been learning the New Testament by heart and is intensively concerned with the faith, which is also expressed in his songs. He lived in Würzburg for 18 years , another 18 years in Heppenheim and since then with his family in Wedel .
Up until then he had only learned to play the guitar by himself. From 1984 to 1992, he did private training in classical guitar with the guitarist and teacher Johannes Tappert. Musically, he took Reinhard Mey as a role model.
He met the French-born Spaniard Laurent Quirós in the spring of 1979 in the pedestrian zone of Munich, where he was selling newspapers. Out of sympathy, Quirós asked if he could sing along. A cooperation developed from the spontaneous joint appearance. Together with Rainer Schwander, Klaus Knoppe and Helmut Kandert, they formed the Würzburg folk formation "Heilhut Semmeldroll" between 1980 and 1988. During this time, however, they began to give duo concerts as Jonathan & Laurent and released three albums between 1988 and 1992, which were among the best-selling albums of Christian music in Germany. In 1984 his first solo LP "Jonathan" was published by Abakus-Verlag , under the production management of Siegfried Fietz . In addition to his duo productions, Böttcher also repeatedly pursued solo projects, which he realized with the concept productions "Lieder zur Bergpredigt" (1989) and "Francesco d'Assisi" (1993).
As a singer-songwriter and song poet, Böttcher is on the road to concerts nationwide and in German-speaking countries and has produced over 50 CDs for children and adults. Since 1995 he has been publishing CD productions in close collaboration with the Swiss pianist and producer David Plüss. Since 1997 also CDs with children's songs for "little and big people". He has been involved in Protestant Church Days and Catholic Days since 1983, has television appearances and radio events. Together with his wife Silke Nowack and son Malte, he took over the sponsorship of the Balthasar children's hospice in 2003 and organizes concerts for the benefit of the Olper Hospice.
In 2016, in collaboration with the poet Cornelia Elke Schray, the CD How can I be an angel for you? with texts from her book Sometimes an angel is good for you .
