Siegfried Fietz
Siegfried Fietz (born May 25, 1946 in Berleburg ) is a German songwriter ( songwriter , composer , producer ) of Christian pop music and a sculptor .
For many years he has shaped the denominational scene with his music, which has become known far beyond the German-speaking countries. The new spiritual song he has influenced in Germany. His setting of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer text Von guten Mächten wunderbar was particularly popular .
Live and act
Fietz grew up in modest circumstances in Hilchenbach in Siegerland . His parents, both refugees from East Prussia , were strictly religious. At the age of five he learned his first notes on his father's violin. A little later he learned to play the guitar. At the age of 15 he began taking singing lessons and at the age of 17 piano lessons, which he financed by giving guitar lessons to other young people. At the age of 18 he was given the opportunity to take the C-exam as a church musician and thereby learn to play the organ. In parallel to his musical education, he trained as a locksmith and businessman.
He gave his first concerts with his friend Klaus Panthel at the Open Evenings Siegen, which attracted up to 10,000 visitors from all over Germany. At these concerts Fietz quickly noticed that new, German-language songs were needed that his generation wanted to sing along with. Since it was easy for him to write songs, he wrote new songs for each of these OAS evenings, which is how the Fietz team's first songs came into being .
From 1965 the Fietz team was traveling all over Germany. For years the main cast included - in addition to the "original cast" Fietz, Panthel and Bernhard Well - the musicians Bernd Gaumann, Helmut Gerhard, Hermann Plate, Siegfried Roth, Helmut Utsch and Harald Weller.
The name Fietz-Team was determined by Hermann Schulte , in whose Wetzlar publishing house, today's Gerth Medien , the band's first single was published. Fietz was not happy with the name: "Back then there was a ' Janz Team ' and we didn't want to be confused with it."
The contact with Schulte meant that Fietz, then 20 years old, was offered a job as a music producer in his publishing house. For this position, but also to study composition with Gustav Adolf Schlemm , he moved to Wetzlar .
Fietz produced songs for Jürgen Werth or Manfred Siebald at Verlag Hermann Schulte Wetzlar , but also published his own works such as the Paulus Oratorio - Let my grace be enough for you.
In 2016, the premiere of the musical "Franziskus - Ein Heiliger und ein Pope" took place as part of the Katholikentag in Leipzig.
Abacus music
Parallel to his work at the Hermann Schulte Wetzlar publishing house, Fietz also published songs such as Every Sun Ray is a Promise or A Backpack and a Knot Stick via the record company CBS under the artist name Manuel Thaler . He hoped to be able to draw more people's attention to his Christian texts by working with a major label . However, he quickly noticed that he was not allowed to sing the songs he wanted at CBS, and so he not only stopped working for CBS in 1974, but also the collaboration with the publisher Hermann Schulte Wetzlar came to an end and he co-founded his wife the Abakus Schallplatten and Ulmtal Musikverlag Barbara Fietz (today: Abakus Musik Barbara Fietz ).
Abakus Musik Verlag has now published over 320 productions, including around 250 by Fietz himself. According to GEMA , he has now written over 4500 songs and gives around 50 concerts a year. At many of these concerts he appears together with his son Oliver Fietz, who is himself a solo musician.
Fietz worked among others with Ivan Rebroff , Eberhard Weber , Johannes Jourdan , Petula Clark , Johannes Nitsch , Uwe Kröger , Eva Lind , Clemens Bittlinger , Bill Ramsey , Edwin Hawkins , Olivia Molina , Dieter Falk , Coretta Scott King and the Apollo-15 - Astronauts James B. Irwin .
From 1986 to 1996 he moderated the program songs between heaven and earth with up to 150,000 listeners at Hessischer Rundfunk .
Visual arts
Fietz also works as a visual artist (abstract painting, wooden sculptures). His first exhibition took place in November 2009 and since then there have been regular exhibitions all over Germany with his works. In July 2015 he opened a sculpture park in Greifenstein-Allendorf . On an area of 20,000 square meters, he exhibits around 50 sculptures made of wood, stone and metal that he has created since 1995.
Private
Siegfried Fietz is married to Barbara Fietz (* 1945) and has three children. He lives and works in Greifenstein-Allendorf in the Lahn-Dill district as a musician, producer and composer.
