Rolf Krenzer

Rolf Krenzer (born August 11, 1936 in Dillenburg ; † March 16, 2007 in Greifenstein ) was a German songwriter and children's book author .

Live and act

After completing a primary, secondary and secondary school teacher training, Krenzer studied special education at the Philipps University in Marburg and was then for many years a teacher and later headmaster of the Otfried Preußler School, an all-day school for practically educable children, of which he was a co-founder. In addition, he was a lecturer and examiner at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in the department of pedagogy for the mentally handicapped. For more than 40 years, he campaigned for people with intellectual disabilities. He was particularly committed to the pastoral care and theology working group in the Federal Association for Life Aid . He was also a member of the jury for the German children's and youth book award. In addition, he was involved as a speaker in training in the area of ​​singing and play education at family camps.

For several years he was editor of the quarterly Columbus, the main concern of which was to convey facts in simple language. He wrote numerous poems and in collaboration with well-known musicians he created play songs and children's musicals to join in (with Peter Janssens , Detlev Jöcker , Paul G. Walter, Robert Haas , Siegfried Fietz , Martin Göth , Reinhard Horn , Ludger Edelkötter and Ludger Stühlmeyer, among others ). His songs are particularly widespread in religious education in preschool and elementary school education and in day care centers.

Rolf Krenzer wrote around 250 children's books and over 2000 song texts. He has been honored with numerous prizes such as the Zurich Children's Book Prize or the Silver Children's Academy. With the music of Peter Janssens, one of his most popular texts has become one of the most widespread modern Advent and Christmas carols: the light of a candle has awakened in Advent .

Rolf Krenzer was married for 45 years to Dagmar Domina, who illustrated numerous of his books. The marriage resulted in two children (Ingo and Kristina).
