Jürgen Werth (born May 14, 1951 in Lüdenscheid ) is a German journalist , book author and songwriter . From 1994 to 2014 he was director of the Evangeliums-Rundfunks and full-time chairman of the board of ERF Medien in Germany. He lives as a freelance writer in Wetzlar .

Live and act

Werth began writing his own songs at the age of 14. He completed an apprenticeship as a journalist at the Westfälische Rundschau in Hagen , Lüdenscheid and Dortmund . From 1973 he was employed by Evangeliums-Rundfunk (today ERF Medien) in Wetzlar . From 1977 to 1984 he was the head of the youth program “erf Junge welle”, in 1986 he became editor-in-chief. In 1994 he took over the position of director from his predecessor Horst Marquardt . Until June 2014, Werth hosted the talk show “Werthe guests” on the television program ERF1 a total of 246 times and the “Wartburg Talks” over 50 times. He spent three years spokesman for the ARD telecast The word Sunday . Since 2007 he has been the full-time CEO. Jörg Dechert has been his successor since October 2014 .

Werth has published numerous books and works as a songwriter. His most famous songs are “Du bist du (never forget it)” with a melody by Paul Janz and “Like a party after long mourning” with a melody by Johannes Nitsch . The latter song is published in three regional parts for the Evangelical Hymnal : Baden, Alsace and Lorraine (666), Palatinate (666) and Württemberg (660). Werth wrote several musicals as a lyricist together with the composers Johannes Nitsch and Hans-Werner Scharnowski , in 2012 the Luther musical Brother Martinus with Siegfried Fietz and in 2019 another one entitled "Heimat ist".

For many years he was a member of the board of the evangelical association ProChrist , which organizes Christian evangelism events lasting several days, where Werth also acted as a moderator . From 2007 to 2011, he succeeded Peter Strauch as Chairman of the German Evangelical Alliance , of which he was a member of the main board from 1997 to 2019.

In 2011, Werth publicly apologized to the homosexuals for suffering disrespect from individual evangelicals. Again and again he advocated redefining the term evangelical in the original sense of evangelical , and referred to the four solos of the Reformation that characterize the evangelical movement: sola gratia , sola fide , sola scriptura , solus Christ (only grace, Faith, Scripture, Christ).
