Horst Marquardt (born July 14, 1929 in Berlin ) is an Evangelical Methodist German theologian , journalist , author and co-founder of evangelical works such as ERF , idea and Christian media initiative pro .

Live and act

Marquardt grew up in a Christian family in Berlin. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Wroclaw . In 1945, shortly before the end of the war, he reported to the Volkssturm there , fled from the Red Army to Neuruppin , where he joined the communist party and became a member of the anti-fascist youth committee . Between 1949 and 1950 he worked as a radio editor in Potsdam , where he was able to gain his first journalistic experience. Because he wanted to be factual and not true to the line, he could no longer publish any contributions. In this difficult situation for him, he took up the Bible and got to know God. He went to West Berlin and studied theology . He then worked as a pastor of the Methodist Church in Berlin , Vienna and Wetzlar . In Vienna, he and his wife took care of Hungarian refugees, 250 people were temporarily housed in the Methodist Church.

From 1960 he was significantly involved in the development of the Evangeliums-Rundfunk (ERF) in Wetzlar, which he led until December 31, 1993. His successor was Jürgen Werth . Even in retirement he produced the series “Bilanz”, “Brennpunkt Middle East” and “Reiseeindrucke” on the radio program ERF Plus until the end of 2015. In the series “Bilanz”, which began in 1998, around 650 programs were broadcast during this time. He will continue to participate in the “Word for the Day” at ERF Plus.

Until 1997, Marquardt was International Director of the Trans World Radio (TWR) mission for Africa, the Middle East and countries in the CIS . In 1970 he founded the evangelical news agency idea eV and was its chairman until 2017. In 1975 he founded the Conference of Evangelical Publishers (KEP), which is now called Christian Media Initiative pro . His goal was to train young Christians for media use, reporting and other journalistic activities. From 1973 to 1986 he was the spokesman for the ARD television program “ Das Wort zum Sonntag ”.

Marquardt was involved in various committees of Christian organizations, such as the main radio and television committee of the Association for Evangelical Journalism (GEP), from 1969 until reaching the age limit in the main board of the German Evangelical Alliance , the Evangelical Senior Citizens Association (ESW) and the Institute for Islamic Issues ( IfI). He was co-founder and from 1986 to 1999 chairman of the Lausanne Movement in Germany, of which he is honorary chairman. Until 2017 he was chairman and since then honorary chairman of the Congress of Christian Leaders (KcF), which has taken place every two years since 1999 and which he set up together with Jörg Knoblauch . He is considered a pioneer and thought leader in evangelical journalism in Germany.

Since December 2018 he has been running the blog “Marquardts Bilanz”, where he publishes spiritual impulses.

Awards

  • In 1985 he was awarded the honor plate of the city of Wetzlar.

Private

Marquardt had been married to his wife Irene, who died in 2017, since 1955 and lives in Minden , they have four grown children.
