Hella Heizmann
Hella Heizmann (born February 24, 1951 in Wetzlar as Hella Bornhütter ; † July 12, 2009 in Eschenburg ; from 2000, bourgeois Hella Weg ) was a German singer , vocal teacher and songwriter of Christian pop music . The texts and melodies of some of their songs can be found in church hymn books.
life and career
Hella Heizmann grew up with three siblings in a strictly religious family of the brothers' movement in Wetzlar. At the age of six she sang in the children's choir of Ruth Frey 's radio program “Fröhliche Kinderstunde” and later in the Wetzlar Children's Choir that grew out of it under Margret Birkenfeld . After her family moved to Ahlen , she sang in a local band as a teenager. Klaus Heizmann , then a full-time musician of the youth mission for Christ , heard a cassette recording of the band , whereupon Hella received an invitation to join the youth for Christ teen team .
In 1971 she married Klaus Heizmann, and in the same year the two set off on a three-month trip to South Africa with the Youth for Christ Teen Team . After her return, Hella Heizmann began studying music in Frankfurt, which she broke off after five semesters because of her second pregnancy. In 1977 she passed her state examination to become a singing teacher at the Academy of Music in Darmstadt.
In her husband's youth for Christ choir , Hella Heizmann first appeared as a soprano soloist. At the same time she steadily developed into an independent singer. Her solo debut, Miracles Are No Problem, was released in 1975 as a collaboration album with the Youth for Christ Choir . This was followed by the albums Wer von der Liebe singt , 1978, and their first Christmas album Die Freude throws their light ahead , 1979. In the early 1980s, the albums A Drop in the Ocean and Hella Heizmann were released - singing , both arranged by Tom Keene and the latter recorded in the USA. In 1983, Hella Heizmann first worked with Hans-Werner Scharnowski as arranger for Regenbogenzeit , and the folk duo Don & Susie Newby also worked on the backings . In 1985 she published her second Christmas album And it happened ... with the studio choir of the St. Goar Music Education Center , arranged by Hans-Werner Scharnowski. The record " Modified" appeared in 1987 and was produced by Scharnowski, Helmut Jost and Hella Heizmann himself. In 1989 she published her autobiographical book Had I learned something decent! . As Hella Heizmann and her rascals , she devoted herself intensively to children's music in the 1990s , so that her next solo album was only released in 2002 after a long break from artists under the title Leise Töne . Her last full album, Mysterious Are God's Ways , was released three years later in 2006.
As her two daughters grew up, the trio Hella, Melanie and Viola Heizmann was formed . At the age of 16 and 18 respectively, the sisters published their debut album at the side of their mother in 1990, The big miracle started out very small . However, the trio had already appeared repeatedly in previous years as a guest in the choir projects of their father and then husband Klaus Heizmann . The success of her Christmas debut in 1994 led to a second Christmas album under the title Glanzlichter . In 1999, on the 50th anniversary of Gerth Medien's publishing, a compilation of the two productions was published. In 1995 a last, quieter selection of old chorales and gospel songs was added under the title From the Heart .
In 1993 the marriage of Hella and Klaus Heizmann was divorced. When her adult daughters moved out a few years later, depression and burnout made themselves felt. In 1998 she finally decided to have treatment at the Hohe Mark Clinic . Hella Heizmann later visited the clinic weekly to offer the patients a therapeutic singing program together.
Hella Heizmann had been married to the entrepreneur Fritz Jürgen Weg since 2000 and carried his real name. The stage name remained Hella Heizmann. Her two last albums were made after her remarriage. She processed the experiences of the last few years in these two albums and tried to help other people in crisis situations through her songs and performances.
In July 2009, at the age of 58, Hella Heizmann succumbed to pancreatic cancer that had been diagnosed just weeks earlier . She most recently worked on a legacy album of her most popular songs, which she was going to re-sang. However, most of them had to be accepted posthumously by their daughters Melanie and Viola. The concept with the title I am close to you appeared in 2009 under “Melanie and Viola for Hella Heizmann”.
Hella Heizmann is represented with three songs in the free church hymn book Celebrating and Praising . She composed the melodies for three other hymns in this hymn book. In other influential hymn books, like the series Jesus Name never faded away , I want to thank you! or celebrate Jesus! , their songs are also represented.
In 2010, Hella Heizmann's early solo albums from 1975 to 1983 were digitized and remastered on CD by Hänssler Verlag . In 2012, Hänssler published a documentary film under the title Hella Heizmann - Trustworthy on God's Paths with interviews with relatives and friends of the musician.
