Academy for Music Art (Darmstadt)
The Academy for Tonkunst in Darmstadt is one of the oldest music training facilities in Germany. It is divided into a vocational academy and the municipal music school .
Karl Philipp Schmitt founded the Schmitt'sche Akademie für Tonkunst in 1851 . When it was taken over by the city in 1922, it was recognized by the state.
Today the academy has a modern building with large and small concert halls, chamber music and rhythm rooms, 46 classrooms and 24 practice rooms, over 100 keyboard instruments, an extensive music library and a high-quality sound studio.
The director since 2005 has been the Dutch composer Cord Meijering .
