The Youth for Christ Choir (spelling: Youth for Christ Choir ) was an influential choir in the Christian music scene that was essential to the youth choir movement in the 1960s and 1970s among evangelical youth.
history
The Youth for Christ Choir was founded in 1958 by Johannes Haas in cooperation with the mission work Youth for Christ and the record label Happy Message in the Song , now Gerth Medien . Around a hundred young people, whose age was initially limited to 30, met annually in the Christian Recreation Center Westerwald in Rehe for a singing leisure time followed by a record recording for the radio broadcasts The Voice of Youth and Happy Message in the Song . These were broadcast weekly on Radio Luxembourg and were particularly popular in evangelical circles. Because of the growing interest in the singing camps, two events a year soon had to be organized. Later Germany-wide concerts and international concert tours followed, including to what was then Czechoslovakia , Israel, Austria, Yugoslavia, France and Switzerland.
Ten years after it was founded, Klaus Heizmann took over the direction of the choir from Johannes Haas in 1968. The first full-time musician of the mission work triggered the so-called youth choir movement in the Christian music scene across Germany through his modern arrangements with wind instruments and guitars, and later also the controversial drums . In 1969 the choir made a tour of the United States. In 1970 Manfred Siebald was a member of the choir that had already composed for him in the 1960s. In the mid-1970s, Klaus Heizmann passed the Youth for Christ Choir on to Dietrich Georg - a long-time pianist who led the choir until it was dissolved.
Well-known soloists of the choir were Doris Loh , Manfred Siebald , Richard Gastmann and from 1970 to 1975 Hella Heizmann .
The Germany Singers
In 1969 the Youth for Christ Choir under Klaus Heizmann was invited by the American Youth For Christ to a concert tour in the USA with the request to make a national contribution to the 25th anniversary of the umbrella organization. Since the choir was not just supposed to be perceived as a “German version” of the Americans and a smaller selection choir had to be put together for the trip, The Deutschland Singers were created , whose repertoire included sacred songs as well as German folk songs to a large extent . The Deutschland Singers released a record and toured Germany under this name until the trip to the USA in November. Here the choir gave 70 concerts in 39 days, sometimes up to five in one day. The choir broke up on his return to Germany. At the initiative of some choir members, however, the Christ singers were brought into being.
