The Christ Singers were a choir of Christian music , especially in the style of the New Spiritual Song .

history

The Christ singers emerged from the concert choir The Deutschland Singers, which was put together in 1969 by the youth mission for Christ especially for a USA tour under the direction of Klaus Heizmann and which was disbanded when they returned home . However, a group of fellow singers decided to continue to work together as a choir and thus formed the Christus singers in 1970 under the direction of Reinhard Henkel. Members of the choir were, among others, the later songwriter Manfred Siebald and music producer Johannes Nitsch , so that the Christus singers distinguished themselves from the start with a particularly text-oriented, demanding repertoire. Despite the nationwide distribution of the individual members, the choir community remained until 1976, during this time it met regularly for concerts throughout the German-speaking area, followed invitations to major Christian events such as the first Christival '76 in Essen and thus influenced current developments in the German Christian music scene like the youth choir movement and Christian pop music . The Christussänger released three studio albums and, after their dissolution in 1976, gathered again three times to realize various concept projects by Manfred Siebald under the name "Manfred Siebald and Friends".
