history

In 1954 the theologian and evangelist Leo Janz , his brother and singer Hildor Janz and pianist Harding Braaten moved from Canada to Europe and founded the Janz team here . The three of them had already visited Germany in 1951 as part of the Janz Quartet music group on the occasion of a tour organized by the Missionswerk Jugend für Christus . The “spiritual need” perceived by them here was the main motivation for founding their own missionary organization. The two Janz families with a total of eight children initially settled in Basel . As the Christian Radio Mission Janz Team , the brothers began their evangelistic work with a radio program on Radio Luxembourg . Their brother Adolph († 1999) and his brother-in-law Cornelius Enns later followed them to Europe and completed the group of the Janz Quartet . Starting with a month-long evangelism at the Basel Sample Fair , the Missionswerk also expanded its internationally successful work in large-scale and mass evangelism. Even the subsequent event of the so-called campaigns for Christ in Essen in 1957 , with a number of visitors of around 9,000 people, exceeded the capacity of the 7,000-seat Grugahalle by far, so that, despite the overcrowded staircases of the galleries, hundreds of other listeners attended the event outside the hall had to follow through loudspeakers. Further "campaigns" took the Janz team to places including Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Lübeck, Mannheim, Kreutal, Herborn ("Dillkreis campaign" 1973), the Ruhr area and Bern. In 1965 the Janz team traveled to Brazil on the first of three evangelism tours through South America. Becoming known among German-born and German-speaking South Americans through broadcasting its radio program on the voice of the Andes , the mission agency sometimes had to rent sports stadiums for its meetings.

In 1956 the Janz team founded a private Christian bilingual school for the children of its missionaries and foreign business people in Basel. Among other things, due to the increasing number of schoolchildren, it was necessary to move to Lörrach (1965) and Sitzenkirch (1972); the Black Forest Academy has been based in Kandern since 1984 . About 300 students whose parents work for various missionary societies are taught here.

From the radio work a long and successful branch of music grew up in the Janz team . The sound recordings of the radio program were already released in the form of singles in the record label of the same name, Songs of Life . The Missionswerk also attached great importance to the musical form of the proclamation of the Gospel at its major events and for this reason created a supporting program with contributions by Hildor Janz, the Janz Quartet and the several hundred voices “campaign choirs” under the direction of Cornie Enns. The interpreters of the Janz team gained a strong influence in the German-speaking Christian music scene and induced intensive music work in the mission work. The Janz team brought several generations of successful singers like Wolfgang Lüdecke , Jack Stenekes , Danny Plett , Anja Lehmann and Yasmina Hunzinger as well as choirs and music groups like One Accord , Janz Team Ambassadors , Bob & DeEtta Janz , Janz Team Singers and last but not least - nonetheless currently in a detached position - the rock band Deliverance emerges. In 2011, however, his last music label, Janz Team Music, ended its work.

In the course of the 2011 merger with TeachBeyond (formerly Janz Team International) and a reorientation of the organization with increased educational offerings, the name of the association was changed to TeachBeyond Deutschland eV in May 2015.

Managing Director of the Janz Team e. V. was Manfred Paul from 1966 to 1978 . National Director of TeachBeyond Deutschland gGmbH is Falk Winter, whose managing director is Gavin Brettenny, who is also Head of School of the Black Forest Academy .
