Hildor Janz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hildor Erford Janz (* 27. April 1921 in Saskatchewan , Canada , † 31 March 2007 in Abbotsford , British Columbia , Canada) was a Canadian singer in the vocal range tenor , composer of the new clergy song and co-founder and voice of mission work Janz Team .

Life

Born into a Mennonite family in Canada from the Netherlands , Hildor Janz grew up here as the second youngest of seven brothers and three sisters on a farm in Saskatchewan . Low German was spoken in the family . First musical successes were, for example, winning a radio singing competition.

After the wedding with Olga Penner, both went to the Prairie Bible Institute and worked on the music team. Together with his brothers Leo and Adolph and his brother-in-law Cornie Enns, the Janz Quartet was formed for the first time in 1946. It soon became known beyond local borders and was finally invited in 1951 by the German branch of the Jugend für Christus mission to a nationwide evangelism tour lasting three months. After Hildor's vocal training in Los Angeles in 1954, the positive experience of this concert tour played an important role in his decision to move permanently to Europe with Leo and both families and to set up his own missionary organization here, which became known as the Janz Team . Initially, the families moved to Basel to take part in the St. Chrischona pilgrimage mission . Their first evangelism event took place on the occasion of the Basel Sample Fair and lasted a month. Numerous such large evangelizations followed, including in the Grugahalle in Essen in front of up to 9500 listeners every evening. While Leo Janz mainly acted as a speaker, Hildor took over the musical arrangement of the evenings. His warm tenor voice became the trademark of the Janz team, so that record singles were soon produced under its own label Lieder des Lebens , which spread throughout the German-speaking world and soon made the Janz team internationally known - in addition to their home country Canada also in the USA and South America . For this reason, several evangelistic trips to Brazil , Paraguay and Argentina took place from 1965 onwards . In 1976 Hildor Janz left the mission to devote himself to pastoral care . However, he continued to appear at Janz team events such as the 1980 evangelism in Lörrach and published various music albums - including rarities in the private family label with his children Gloria, married Veer, and Daniel Janz .

After working for decades in Germany, Hildor Janz moved back to Canada when he was old and lived there in Abbotsford , British Columbia until his death . He is considered one of the most popular gospel singers worldwide. Hildor and Olga Janz had six children, one of whom died at a young age. Another son, Daniel Janz , first became known in the international Christian music scene in the pop duo with his cousin Paul Janz and later on the secular market with the band Deliverance . Daniel's son and Hildor Janz's grandson Michael Janz won the Swiss casting show SuperStar in 2006 and is successful in Germany with the band Beatbetrieb , among others .
