Deliverance (band)
Deliverance was a German- Canadian band of Christian pop and rock music from the 1970s .
history
The band Deliverance was founded in the mid-1970s by cousins Danny , Ken and Paul Janz in Loerrach . Born in Alberta ( Canada ), they came to Germany with their parents, the founders of the Janz team , in 1954. They grew up in Basel ( Switzerland ) and Germany and attended the international Christian boarding school Black Forest Academy in Kandern. The band emerged from the merger of the group Danny & Paul (later with Wayne Quiring: Danny, Paul, Wayne ) with the Janz Team Singers and new members. So the first singles appeared with both names Janz Team Singers and Danny & Paul .
In 1976 her debut album To God Be The Glory was released with Christian pop and rock music. The album Give It A Try followed in 1977 . Because of their mixing of sacred and secular music as well as joint appearances with hard rock bands like the Scorpions , the band received increasing criticism from the Christian music scene, but also concerns from the Janz team , their musical home. The third album Lasting Impressions was released in 1977 on the secular label WEA by Warner Music , the last album Tightrope in 1979 on Global Records . The song Leaving LA made it to number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA .
In 1978 the Janz team released the concept production The King Comes . Due to the conflict that the name Deliverance had triggered in the conservative Christian audience, the band was not named as such, but the members were listed individually under the subtitle Young men praise God .
In 1979, the band took part in the recordings of Siegfried Fietz's Johannes Oratorio alongside, among others, Inge Brück and the Botho Lucas Choir .
After the group had to give up the name Deliverance according to a court order, they took part under the name Janz with the song Steine in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. A short time later Paul Janz moved back to Canada and the band broke up.
