The Botho Lucas Choir was one of the most famous German vocal ensembles of the 1960s and 1970s.

The choir

Botho Lucas (1923–2012) founded the Lucas Quartet in 1958 (Botho Lucas, Bernd Golonsky, Günter Kallmann , Ralf Paulsen ), from which in 1961 the Botho Lucas Choir with a changing female line-up - ( Gretel Kästel , Ans Plevier, Daisy Door , Ulla Wiesner , Hanna Dölitsch) emerged, initially as a studio ensemble with well-known performers, but soon with their own solo tasks.

Thank you (for this good morning) , with which Martin Gotthard Schneider won the competition for new sacred songs of the Evangelical Academy Tutzing , was the first unexpected success for the Botho Lucas Choir. The song became an evergreen and can be heard in numerous wish concerts to this day. In the following year, the choir produced two long-playing records with other modern, spiritual titles, some of which becamevery well known, such as Ein Schiff, which calls itself Gemeinde .

The repertoire and the possibilities of interpretation of the choir are extremely varied. It includes modern folk song arrangements, operettas, musicals, evergreens, hits and foreign languages. The title music of the German version of 55 Days in Beijing (1963) was sung by them, the German version of the title song to the film Die foolhardy men in their flying boxes ( Richt'ge Männer wie wir ) was written in 1965.

On television, the choir was represented in many programs as a soloist and with accompanying chants. In addition, choir and solo productions took place with almost all of the orchestras known from radio and television, and the ensemble also took part in numerous productions by prominent artists from the 1960s as an accompanying choir, including We can only write letters by Greetje Kauffeld (1964) and Santo Domingo by Wanda Jackson (1965).

Alongside Ralf Paulsen, Daisy Door was one of the well-known soloists who helped the choir achieve its unmistakable sound. Daisy Door was best known for the title You live in your world from the TV series The Commissioner . In 1979 the Botho Lucas Choir went on tour with the Bert Kaempfert Orchestra through Germany , Luxembourg and Switzerland and also made a guest appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in London .
