Andreas Malessa

Andreas Malessa (born July 10, 1955 ) is a German radio journalist for the ARD , an evangelical-free church theologian , author of satirical short stories, speaker and moderator at events with religious-cultural, ecclesiastical and socio-ethical topics. Life

Malessa is the eldest son of a Baptist pastor, he has two younger sisters and grew up in different cities in Germany, where his father was a pastor. In 1970, after a lecture by the YMCA secretary Wolfgang Dyck , he decided to choose a profession that would serve to communicate the gospel . In 1972, at the age of 17, he hosted his first weekly radio show. From 1972 to 1991 he formed the duo Arno & Andreas with Arno Backhaus and released six LPs / CDs under the musical direction of producer Dieter Falk . After graduating from high school in 1974, he studied theology at the Theological Seminary of Evangelical Free Churches and at the University of Hamburg , with Helmut Thielicke among others . In 1980 he was ordained pastor in the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches , where he was released for youth work, radio and television.

From 1982 to 2013 he worked as a radio journalist for Deutschlandradio Kultur and Hessischer Rundfunk , and from 1991 to 2015 he worked as a documentary filmmaker for SWR Stuttgart . He became known as a TV presenter through talk formats and magazine programs such as “Um Himmels Willen”, “Um Elf”, “Lebensfragen” and “Südwest Extra”. In addition, he moderated the "Songs um Acht" live on SDR 3 every Sunday and public holiday for 12 years. He writes reports from the Third World and satires for various magazines, and acts as a speaker on religious-cultural, social-ethical and church topics 100 events per year. His best-known books are “Small Lexicon of Religious Errors”, “My Heart in Africa” and “What's There to Laugh?” In 2013 he wrote the gospel choir musical “Amazing Grace” together with the Norwegian composer Tore W. Aas . The musical "Martin Luther King - A dream changes the world" followed in 2019 (with Hanjo Gäbler and Christoph Terbuyken).

Private

Malessa has been married to Edeltraud Malessa since 1978, he has two grown daughters and lives in Hochdorf near Stuttgart.
