Hänssler publishing house

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The hänssler is a Christian publishing house. Since the merger in 2007 with other evangelical publishers to form SCM-Verlag of the Christian Media Foundation , the portfolio has been continued under the SCM Hänssler brand . Since 2015, the Hänssler Classic music label has been entirely in the hands of its co-founder Günter Hänssler.

history

After an unsuccessful search for a publisher that still published after the First World War in order to publish his setting of the poem “On Adlers Wings” by Anni von Viebahn , Friedrich Hänssler founded Friedericke in Stuttgart-Plieningen on April 1, 1919, together with his wife Friedericke the Hänssler publishing house. In addition to his own compositions, he published hymns by other composers as well as classical music works , including works by the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy of Jewish origin , which is why the publishing house in Nazi Germany was publicly defamed in 1933 and finally banned in 1941.

After the end of the Second World War , Friedrich Hänssler was the tenth German publisher to receive a license from the Allies to resume his work on June 10, 1945 . In 1950 his son Friedrich joined the publishing house and nine years later took over the management, which he held until 2002. As the work of the publishing house grew, he moved into new premises in Neuhausen in 1970 and in his current location in Holzgerlingen in 1999. During these decades the publishing house grew into one of the most influential Christian publishers in Germany. The publisher gained international recognition not only in the print media, but also with its music label Hänssler Music and, above all, Hänssler Classic . In Germany, the Hänssler publishing house was involved in the Christian publishing cooperations Edition C and ABC Team .

When the publisher got into financial difficulties and went bankrupt, it was integrated into the Christian Media Foundation in May 2002 and merged with R. Brockhaus Verlag , Oncken-Verlag and ERF-Verlag to form SCM-Verlag in 2007 . The traditional name was retained as the SCM Hänssler brand .

In addition, Hänssler published individual books by Protestant authors such as Hans-Joachim Eckstein and Fritz Pawelzik as well as Catholic authors such as Bernhard Langer and Gerard van den Aardweg .

In cooperation with other publishers, Hänssler has already published several hymn books for the free church community practice such as Jesus' Name Never Folded Out in six volumes, Singt mit uns! , I want to thank you! , Celebrate & Praise as well as the worship hymn book Celebrate Jesus! . During the youth choir movement of the 1970s and 1980s, the publisher supplied hundreds of singing groups and choirs with song books such as Singt the song of songs in four volumes and Tell it all in your town with the then completely new sacred songs .
