The Born-Verlag is a working area of the German Youth League Christian Endeavor eV It was founded in 1898, the association's journal, the job aids, songs and books as "founding book" the light beams to move the association. The publishing house was initially based in Berlin-Friedrichshagen . In 1948 it was relocated to Kassel together with the federal headquarters of the youth association.
history
In 1894 the first EC youth leagues came into being in Germany. Back then, literature work was an important branch of the EC work. In 1896 the first EC magazine, “Jugendhilfe”, appeared, a bulletin to promote youth - today the EC member magazine “anruf”.
In order to be able to sell the magazines and books of the EC, Pastor Friedrich Blecher founded the "Jugendbund-Buchhandlung und Verlag" in Berlin-Friedrichshagen as the initiator of the EC work in Germany on January 1, 1898. The “founding book” in 1898 was “rays of light”. First published as an insert in the “Jugendhilfe”, it was published for the first time as a book in 1918. To date, the "rays of light" are produced annually in an edition of 30,000 copies. In order to protect the publishing house from being attacked by the National Socialists, it was run from 1937 to 1948 as "Woltersdorf-Verlag". In 1942 the publishing work had to be stopped due to a paper shortage.
Since then, the bookstore and publisher have operated separately as the EC bookstore and Born-Verlag. In 1971, the EC and the publishing house moved into a new domicile in Frankfurter Strasse and finally in 1990 the building in Leuschnerstrasse, where they are still based today. After Siegfried Wagner and Roland Eise, Konrad Flämig was the publishing director from 1992 to 2002. In 2001 the delivery was handed over to ChrisMedia GmbH in Staufenberg and in 2002 Claudia Siebert took over the management of the publishing house.
Publishing program
The publishing program includes approx. 150 available titles and the four magazines:
- anruf - magazine of the German Youth Association "Decided for Christ"
- Really. Growing in Faith - topics and material for young adults, home groups, student work
- TEC: Teens experience Christ - magazine and work material for teen employees and confirmation work,
- JuMat - JUngscharMATerial with lesson drafts, material and templates as well as games card
