Bryn Haworth (born July 29, 1948 ) in Blackburn , Lancashire is a British rock singer and guitarist who has made a name for himself as a solo artist and session musician since the early 1970s.

Life

Bryn Haworth is in Darwen in the county of Lancashire grew up. There he attended the Technical College , where his father also works as a math teacher. His musical imprint was very much influenced by his mother's taste in music, who constantly listened to the latest songs by artists such as Elvis Presley , Jackie Wilson and Little Richard , as well as classical records. Haworth received his first guitar at the age of 11 and attended classical guitar music lessons for a year. Contemporary musical influences included music groups such as The Ventures and The Shadows . During his school days, with Merseybeat groups such as The Beatles , Haworth himself began to play guitar with groups in various bars, including The Mustangs , The Railroaders and The Mike Taylor Combo .

After graduating from high school, he initially worked at the local paper mill, but his band activities there eventually led to his dismissal. Haworth later recalled, "I couldn't get up in the morning because I had played in a band until late at night."

At the age of 17, Haworth left Lancashire with just a suitcase and his guitar. He went to London and initially slept in Victoria bus station. He finally met with members of the band Wynder K. Frog and was allowed to sleep in the attic of the house that the band lived in.

Career

Haworth came to London from Lancashire in the 1960s and joined the band Les Fleur de Lys in 1966 . Her few recordings were not a commercial success; but since the band was professional, they played in the studio and live for many artists on their Polydor label as a backing band, especially for Sharon Tandy , whose “singles, which have been upgraded by the Fleur de Lys [...] are certainly the most exciting, danceable and shrillest Productions of the 67th year ”belonged.

When the band was dissolved in the spring of 1969, Haworth went to California , from where he toured the United States with various groups such as the Jackie Lomax Band or Wolfgang , which was put together by Bill Graham . In 1973 he returned to the UK and recorded his first solo LP for Island Records . Gordon Haskell and Pete Wingfield worked on "Let the Days Go By" . On his second LP for Island , "Sunny Side of the Street" (1974), musicians from Fairport Convention , Madeline Bell and again Pete Wingfield were involved. During this time he played alongside as a session musician for Gallagher and Lyle , Andy Fairweather-Low and others.

Since 1974 Haworth turned to the Christian faith , which brought a strong gospel influence into his music. He went back to the USA for the next solo album: "Grand Arrival" (1978) was recorded in Nashville . In the following years he toured extensively in Europe, supporting, among others, Traffic , Bad Company , Gallagher and Lyle and Fairport Convention . Further albums and tours followed solo and as the Bryn Haworth Band . As a session musician, he was in the studio from 1975 to 2005 for Chris de Burgh , Joan Armatrading , Marianne Faithfull , Cliff Richard , Ian Matthews , John Cale and Gerry Rafferty, among others . Lulu , Sandy Denny and Mary Black have interpreted songs by the songwriter Haworth.

Since the early 1990s, Bryn Haworth has also devoted himself to charitable work. He regularly goes to prisons to make music and give Bible studies. Bryn and his wife Sally held several music workshops with inmates in 2006 in the high-security prison Highdown in Surrey .

His recordings are also increasingly devoted to Christian themes, as is evident from the titles of his albums “Songs & Hymns” (“Songs and Hymns”, 1999) and “Keep the Faith” (“Preserve the Faith”, 2005).
