Werner Hucks (born January 23, 1962 in Duisburg ) is a German guitarist from Siegen .

Life

Hucks studied from 1981 to 1988 at the Cologne University of Music , in 1986 he became the first qualified music teacher for jazz guitar in Germany and in 1988 he graduated from Eddy Marron's artistic school . He has been active as a concert guitarist and studio musician since the early 1980s. His repertoire ranges from classical guitar literature to jazz. With his solo program he has also performed in the USA, Swaziland, Namibia, South Africa and many European countries.

In the field of jazz he worked a. a. with Charlie Mariano , Jiggs Whigham , Ack van Rooyen and Lee Konitz ; in the pop area z. B. with Dieter Falk , Ralf Gustke and Wolfgang Schmid and in the Christian music scene with Manfred Siebald , the ERF , Siegfried Fietz , Jan Vering , Hartmut & Johannes Nitsch , Clemens Bittlinger , Helmut Jost and many others. From 1996 to 1999 he played the first guitar in the musicals Les Miserables in Duisburg and in Elisabeth in Essen. In this context there were some musical CD recordings.

Hucks forms a jazz duo with trumpeter Martin Reuthner. For the 400th birthday of Paul Gerhardt he worked with the singer Werner Hoffmann in 2007 on a concert and CD project Breit 'aus die Flügel both . He has released 15 albums so far, about half of which were written by himself. The others are mostly his transcriptions of works by Johann Sebastian Bach or choral arrangements. Occasionally, compositions and arrangements by his father Walter Hucks, whose guitar he plays today, appear in his concerts.

Among other things, he is on the road to concert readings with theologian Margot Käßmann . He was a guitarist on all of Heino's church concert tours . He organizes concert evenings with the singer and journalist Christoph Zehendner . Since 2017, Hucks and the theologian and writer Uwe Birnstein have presented the program Luther & Lindenberg - Two Germans for a Hallelujah .

Werner Hucks lives with his wife in Siegen-Niederschelden and teaches as a guitar teacher at the Fritz-Busch-Musikschule in Siegen .
