Hänssler Classic ( original spelling : hänssler CLASSIC ) is a music label of Profil Medien GmbH, based in Neuhausen auf den Fildern, which originally emerged from the Hänssler Verlag . Today it is one of the world's most successful independent record labels for classical music .

history

1975 founded Friedrich Hänssler in his publisher with Laudate a record label for priority sacred classical music. Bach expert Helmuth Rilling was one of his first prominent artists . With his choir, the Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart , he began with the complete recording of Bach's sacred cantatas, which was then completely supplemented by all other works including fragments and incomplete compositions by the Bach year 2000. The edition Bachakademie , which is unique in this consistent form and under continuous artistic direction, has been awarded various international prizes such as the ECHO Klassik . In 2002, the Hänssler Verlag and the label hänssler CLASSIC were taken over by the Christian Media Foundation after economic difficulties . In September 2015, "Profil Medien GmbH", founded by Günter Hänssler, acquired back the "hänssler CLASSIC" label, which he had co-founded.

The labels (hänssler CLASSIC and Profil Edition Günter Hänssler) received a total of 17 Echo Awards and 13 Grammy nominations.

Profil Medien has made a name for itself with documentary editions, e.g. Edition Staatskapelle Dresden, Semperoper Edition, and is a leader in the field of historical publications.

Günter Hänssler is continuing his success with hänssler CLASSIC: In 2019, Frank Peter Zimmermann, together with his son Serge and the Berlin Baroque Soloists, received the International Classical Music Award for recording the violin concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach. In 2018, Jascha Nemtsov and Kathrin Christians each received an opus classic.

The label positions itself in the music market with releases from jazz to church music between tradition and innovation and, with 50 to 60 new releases per year, is one of the most successful music labels for classical music independent of major labels.
