Kathrin Christians

Kathrin Christians (* 1984 ) is a German flutist .

Life

Christians grew up in Neckarsteinach and Heidelberg . During her high school years she studied flute at the Mannheim University of Music and received her diploma there. Further studies took her to the master class at the Munich University of Music . She completed her master's degree with distinction at the Stuttgart University of Music .

At the age of 23 Christian became principal flutist of the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra and the Mannheim Mozart Orchestra , where she was active until 2011. Since then she has given chamber music concerts and appears as a soloist at festivals such as the MDR Music Summer , Lucerne Festival and Palermo Classica.

Shortly before the release of her debut album, Christians suffered a stroke that paralyzed her on one side. After four months she was back on stage and has been performing with an eye patch ever since.

Her social commitment includes her membership in Musicians for Human Rights, as well as the interdisciplinary development of a therapy-accompanying music program in the day tumor center for chemotherapy at the University Hospital Mannheim . As an interface partner between companies, cultural institutions and cultural workers, she works in an advisory capacity. She has also appeared as an interview partner and motivator since her stroke. TV portraits and interviews were broadcast on ZDF , RBB , SWR and RNF. She has also been the patron of the Valentina Foundation since 2019.
