Opus classic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The OPUS KLASSIK is a German music award for personalities and productions from the field of classical music . The OPUS KLASSIK is the successor award to the Echo Klassik (1994–2017) and, like it, a jury award. The awarding of the Echo Klassik was discontinued on April 25, 2018 by the Federal Association of the Music Industry , after the awarding of the Echo Pop 2018 had resulted in the Echo being perceived as "a platform for anti-Semitism , contempt for women , homophobia or the belittling of violence". The commercial orientation of the Echo Klassik , which was primarily geared towards sales figures, was also criticized.

description

The organizer of the award, which honors outstanding classical musicians and sound carriers, is the newly founded association for the promotion of classical music , in which music labels, organizers, publishers and people with influences in classical music are represented. The OPUS KLASSIK is the successor award to the Echo Klassik and, like this, is awarded by an expert jury. The jury selects the winners and excellent recordings from a large number of outstanding nominations in various categories. If the regulations and jury of the new award are still based on those of the Echo Klassik in the transition year , the association wants to continuously develop the new award for classical music based on the feedback from the industry. For the future, we are also thinking about awards for new concert formats and original programs. Like the Echo trophy, the OPUS KLASSIK trophy was developed and designed by Oliver Renelt . Submission regulations

The submission was based on sound carrier publications by an artist in the classical genre . The classification in the PHONONET database decided whether the sound carrier could be assigned to the genre classic. All phonogram manufacturers whose phonograms were constantly sold on the German market and who owned the corresponding distribution rights to the artists' phonograms were eligible to submit. Regardless of their nationality, all classical music artists who were active in the musical life and on the recording market at the time of submission were qualified for the award. The submission period fell on March of each year. The evaluation period fell from the beginning of the previous calendar year to the submission period of the current year. The sound carriers had to contain recordings published for the first time in the evaluation period, the proportion of which in the total playing time of the publication had to be at least 50%. Products submitted in the previous year could not be submitted again.

A one-time fee of EUR 50.00 was charged for each product submitted. The jury selected the respective award winner from the submissions for the individual categories with a simple majority. Legal recourse was final against the decision of the jury. There was no legal claim to consideration in the submission process or to the prizes awarded.

Association for the Promotion of Classical Music eV

The Association for the Promotion of Classical Music eV was founded in 2018. The aim of the association is to promote classical music and, in particular, to reward its artists. The founding members reflect the broader anchoring of the award in the German classical music industry. “Classical music in Germany has to be honored with its own prize,” said board member Burkhard Glashoff. “We, the founding members, have set ourselves the goal of recognizing and honoring extraordinary achievements in classical music. We developed a concept for a new music award that is even broader than in the past and reflects the industry in all its diversity. ”The association was founded after the Federal Association of the Music Industry (BVMI) put an end to the echo awards in all categories , also classical , had announced. The overarching goal of the association is to develop initiatives to attract more attention to classical music. Through the activities of the association, classical music is to be anchored emotionally and effectively across different generations and demographics in the everyday reality of people and the positive value of classical music as part of our culture is to be worked out. In addition to the OPUS KLASSIK , further measures are therefore being planned that recognize recognition and media attention for special commitment in the field of classical music.
