Life
Wolfgang Blissenbach grew up with his sister Gerlinde. After graduating from school, he first completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter. This was followed by studies at the Beröa Theological Seminar (TSB) of the Federation of Free Church Pentecostal Churches (BFP).
In 1961 Wolfgang Blissenbach began taking singing lessons from well-known singing teachers in Hamburg. He studied with Charlotte Feindt , Henny Wolff and Elisabet Einfeldt , among others . In 1963 he received his first invitations to singing concerts. In 1964 he decided to work full time as a gospel singer. This was followed by evangelistic trips to the USA, Canada as well as countries in South America, Africa, Scandinavia and all of Europe. In 1965 he was ordained a pastor by the Bund Freikirchlicher Pfingstgemeinden . Blissenbach passed his state examination as a singing teacher at the Academy of Music in Darmstadt.
From 1970 to 1976 Wolfgang Blissenbach worked as a singing and music teacher at the Beröa Theological Seminary . At the same time he studied at the Academy for Music in Darmstadt . After completing the state-recognized vocal pedagogy exam, he returned to Hamburg. In the following years of full-time musical work in the BFP, he was committed to the vocal training of the individual community choirs. He also founded the first Christian community music school in Hamburg.
Wolfgang Blissenbach's first recordings were made in the 1970s. Christian music producers like Klaus Heizmann and Jochen Rieger soon discovered the baritone for their own projects. For example, he worked on the cantetas Jesus comes again and praise and adoration be you or the oratorio Jerusalem Schalom by Klaus Heizmann. In addition to his solo discography, Wolfgang Blissenbach also published his own concepts and choral works such as the cantata Selig are under his direction. Choirs under his direction included the choir of the BFP congregation Arche in Hamburg , The Gospel Singers from Erzhausen and the Sela studio choir of the record label of the same name in Leuchter-Verlag .
In 1999 Wolfgang Blissenbach suffered a stroke from which he did not recover. Years of health problems followed. After an eye treatment in 2010, he fell ill with several infections and repeated strokes. The result was inpatient treatment in different hospitals for months. Wolfgang Blissenbach died on June 3, 2010 at the age of 69.
Since 1962 Wolfgang Blissenbach was married to his wife and pianist Marlene, with whom he has three sons and a daughter.
