Judy Irene Bailey Depuhl (born July 20, 1968 in London ) is a singer , composer and musician of Christian pop music . She grew up in Barbados and now lives in Germany .

Life

Judy Bailey spent her childhood in Barbados . At the age of 17 she started playing the guitar and composed her first songs. She has already produced an album in Barbados that earned her the title Gospel Album of the Year there . In addition to pop and rock elements, her musical style also shows influences from reggae and African music. In the course of her musical career she worked with Eddy Grant (producer of her album Between you and me ), Ralf Gustke ( drums on the album Run to you ) or Edzard Hüneke (vocals on the album ONE ).

In Germany, Judy Bailey became known to a larger audience through her album Found the sun , which she released on the major label J-Star / BMG (co-produced by Dieter Falk ). The single Extraordinary Light (2003) hit the charts . Judy Bailey was able to record another chart success through her participation in the music project “ Zeichen der Zeit” (2004). In the same year she also appeared in the supporting act for the Sons of Mannheim . Her live album Surrounded was released in late 2006 , with support from Kosho , Metaphysics and Jimmy Kelly , among others . In 2013 she released Lift Up Your Hearts, a new setting of the Anglican liturgy with 36 pieces. LIFESONG was released in 2014. Judy Bailey has toured in over 30 countries on all continents. She also sings with a large band, unplugged with a few musicians or on reading-song evenings only with her husband Patrick Depuhl. It plays at festivals and city festivals, in churches and clubs or in unusual places. So she gave concerts on her "traveling tour" in a cutlery factory, the lifting platform of a car repair shop, an Edeka market and a McDonalds, a youth prison, a children's hospice and in a cemetery chapel, in Frankfurt Airport, Berlin Hbf and around 40 other surprising ones Places. She sings with refugees (e.g. in her home village Alpen: "HOME. Alpenmusik" ), a prisoner's choir in the Essen correctional facility, but also for world-famous personalities such as Pope Francis in Rio (2013) and Panama City (2019) or for Angela Merkel and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in Dortmund (2019).

She also appears regularly at major Christian events, such as the World Youth Days in Cologne in 2005 , in Sydney in 2008 , in Rio de Janeiro in 2013 , in Krakow in 2016 and in Panama City in 2019 , at the opening service of the 2006 World Cup , at twelve Protestant Church Days since 1993 (1993 Munich, 1995 Hamburg, 1997 Leipzig, 2001 Frankfurt, 2005 Hanover, 2007 Cologne, 2009 Bremen, 2011 Dresden, 2013 Hamburg, 2015 Stuttgart, 2017 Berlin / Wittenberg, 2019 Dortmund), Catholic days (2012 Mannheim, 2014 Regensburg, 2016 Leipzig, 2018 Münster) and the 1st Ecumenical Church Congress in Berlin 2003 and the 2nd Ecumenical Church Congress 2010 in Munich, the ProChrist evangelization 2003, 2013 and 2018, as well as the 14th World Baptist Youth Conference in Hong Kong in 2004 and the 15th in Leipzig 2008. Her songs Jesus in my house , title song of the youth evangelization JesusHouse 2000, Jesus First , title song of the Christival 2002 in Kassel and Klüger , song for the 2015 Kirchentag with Thomas Laubach. Judy Bailey's song Spirit of Freedom made it onto the Listen Up! The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Album .

Judy Bailey is a psychotherapist by profession . She has been the ambassador for the aid organization World Vision Germany since 2002 , for which she has traveled through Africa several times. She is married to Patrick Depuhl and has three children.
