history

In the 18th century, small biblical circles inspired by Swabian Pietism emerged in the region . From 1921 onwards, Christa von Viebahns (1873–1955), the daughter of Georg von Viebahns , gathered around the evangelistic preaching and diaconal activity , a group of girls and young women who organized Christian children's lessons , girls' groups and Bible studies on a voluntary basis in various places around Aidlingen.

Deaconess Mother House Aidlingen

November 13, 1927 is considered to be the founding day of the sisterhood, to which many of the young women knew they were called as deaconesses. A meeting room on the Aidlinger Sonnenberg, built before the community was founded, was expanded to become the motherhouse of the young community. Christa von Viebahn led the community as superior until her death on January 2nd, 1955. In 1964 the sisters moved into the newly built motherhouse on the eastern edge of the village. As a motto, the community chose the saying "Saved to serve the living and true God and to await his Son from heaven." ( 1 Thess 1: 9-10  translation )

Sister Regine Mohr has been the superior of the sisterhood since December 2017.

Areas of responsibility

Theological seminar

From the beginning, the Diakonissenhaus has trained young women in religious and community education. The theological seminar “Aidlingen Bible School” offers young women from the age of 18 a year-long course of study which is intended to impart biblical knowledge, promote personal faith and motivate them to volunteer in the community. Since 2017, this can also be visited for three, six or nine months. In 2017, the three-year apprenticeship as a parish deacon, religious educator or youth advisor was discontinued after 44 years due to a lack of demand. To this end, a flexible short Bible school model for young people from 14 years of age and young adults up to 30 years of age was introduced. Those interested can take part in four weekends a year as well as in various leisure and training programs during the holidays.

Further training opportunities

  • The Aidlingen Deaconess Mother House has been training young people in nursing care since 1949. Today the sisters at the hospital offer Kirchheim - Nürtingen together with the district of Esslingen and the Württembergische Sisterhood of the Red Cross , the education in health and medical care .
  • In a three-year apprenticeship, young women have the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship as a state-approved housekeeper in the deaconess mother house in Aidlingen or in the guest house "Tannenhöhe" in Villingen .
