Johannes Hansen (pastor)

Johannes Hansen (born February 12, 1930 in Stedesand , † October 12, 2010 in Witten ) was a German Protestant pastor of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia , evangelist , writer and poet . He became known nationwide through evangelism, youth weeks and lectures.

Live and act

Johannes Hansen grew up in Stedesand. During his craft apprenticeship, he encountered the gospel and was trained as a missionary. He initially worked as a city missionary and preacher. From 1958 until his retirement in 1995 he worked in the People's Missionary Office of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (today: Institute for Community Development and Missionary Services ); In 1973 he took over its management.

Hansen developed new forms of missions such as area evangelizations in church circles, open evenings in village pubs and music evangelizations in which publishers and musicians work together. He was also a speaker at several evangelism series at the German Evangelical Church Congress.

From 1979 to 1997 he was a member of the EKD Synod , was a member of the German branch of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization and the Confidence Council of the Missionary Services Working Group (AMD). His commitment contributed to the fact that the EKD made mission the focus of its 1999 synod in Leipzig . Even in his retirement, Hansen preached in Germany and abroad until 2009, including in the Baltic States, South Africa, Namibia and Indonesia and was a speaker at the German Evangelist Conference.

He also loved the language in its many variations. For him, this also included the “condensation” of words. Due to his profound spiritual texts he was one of the bestselling authors at Kawohl Verlag . The psalm meditations "After dark comes a new morning" achieved a circulation of well over 100,000 copies. He was valued as the author of numerous books and through his impulses on radio and television . On the website gott.net, which is supported by Christians from regional and free churches, he published articles on topics of faith in a weekly column. Most of them also appeared in book editions. According to the AMD leader, Pastor Birgit Winterhoff, in the obituary, he preached close to the people and was able to reach people far from the gospel with his message.

Johannes Hansen was married to his wife Margarete and had four children with her.
