Hermann Schulze-Berndt (born July 14, 1958 in Bentheim ) is a German religious educator and author .

Life

Hermann Schulze-Berndt studied Catholic theology , educational science and Latin studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . He is married, has two daughters and lives in Bad Bentheim in Lower Saxony . There he worked for 35 years as a religion and Latin teacher until the end of the 2019/20 school year. Schulze-Berndt has been a member of the Bad Bentheim City Council for years.

Hermann Schulze-Berndt conducts God's Word celebrations on a voluntary basis and is a member of the Commission for Ecumenism of the Diocese of Osnabrück. As a part-time job he works as a journalist (with a focus on religion, church, and the New Spiritual Song) and creates spiritual programs for the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR) and Deutschlandfunk (DLF). From 1979 to 1983 he headed a working group in the Catholic student community in Münster. In 1980, together with the Franciscan Father Joachim Michael, he initiated the Whitsun Festival , an international Whitsun meeting in Bardel Monastery . In 1981, 1983 and 1987 he was co-initiator and co-organizer of the “small Catholic days” in the county of Bentheim. In 1996 he was one of the founders of the Otto Pankok Museum in Gildehaus . Since 1997, Hermann Schulze-Berndt has been working on a voluntary basis in the specialist clinics of his hometown in the health and pastoral care of the sick. He is a member of the Kolping Society, the Association of Philologists and the Bad Bentheim Open Air Theater. He has participated as a speaker or performer in performances of works of sacred music.

Works

Hermann Schulze-Berndt wrote the lyrics for Peter Janssens for the music games Elisabeth von Thüringen (1984 world premiere at the 88th German Catholic Convention in Munich) and Das Tierparlament (1985 world premiere at the German Evangelical Church Convention in Düsseldorf) and the New Kolping Song (1991).

His oratorio Our Father (music: Martin Schmalisch) was performed publicly for the first time at the 1990 Katholikentag in Berlin . With Markus Grohmann he wrote the cantatas Feueratem (1999 world premiere in Neuhausen) and Herr der Zeit (2001 world premiere in Neuhausen).

With Marcel Lehmann and Werner Totzauer he developed children's songs and singing games. For Siegfried Fietz (e.g. sometimes you need an angel ), Chris Herbring (e.g. dance with God ) and Klaus-Hermann Anschütz (e.g. you are you ) he wrote sacred lyrics.

With the music group Horizonte from Kevelaer he developed the music games Das Mädchen und der Engel (2000 world premiere in Kevelaer) and A Man in God's Name (2000 world premiere in Kleve).

He wrote several religious books alone, e.g. B. Abraham's Heirs (2005), and two with his wife Helena: Stepping into Life (2005) and Entrusted to Each Other (2005).

In February 2006 his children's musical Fanny & Willy II - Two Mice Play Detective with the music of Werner Totzauer was premiered in Vienna . On May 26, 2006, his musical Der Weg nach Santiago (music: Siegfried Fietz) premiered at the Katholikentag in Saarbrücken . Outwardly, it is about the Camino de Santiago to Santiago de Compostela and internally it is about the search for spiritual fulfillment. In 2006, together with Siegfried Fietz, he created the musical Blessed Are You for Misereor Hunger Cloth from China. It was published in January 2007. On June 7, 2007, the premiere took place during the 31st German Evangelical Church Congress in Cologne.

With the composer Markus Grohmann he wrote the Missa laeta , a happy mass for schola, choir, wind instruments, percussion and piano. The world premiere was given on November 25, 2007 in the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Neuhausen near Stuttgart. In autumn 2011, the music and texts of the Missa laeta were published by Strube-Verlag (Munich).

At the 97th German Catholic Day in Osnabrück on May 24, 2008 the cantata Herr der Zeit was performed with the text by Hermann Schulze-Berndt. For the same event, the poet wrote the song You lead us out into the distance together with Siegfried Fietz .

In 2008 the St. Benno Verlag (Leipzig) published the new religious books You should be a blessing and a pocket dictionary of sects, cults and esotericism .

In 2009, Hermann Schulze-Berndt published the gift booklet Happy Every Day (Kawohl Verlag) and the reading and audio book Animal Stories (Eifelkrone-Verlag).

In the spring of 2010 he contributed two texts to the song album Experience Silence by Siegfried Fietz .

On March 24, 2010, the world premiere of the children's musical onions and tomatoes (text: Hermann Schulze-Berndt, music: Werner Totzauer) took place at Johann-Hoffmann-Platz in Vienna .

In November 2010, three new sacred songs with the music of Klaus Bucka (Treuchtlingen) as a complete score (with CD), choral score and instrument score were published by Strube Verlag in Munich under the title Gute Träume Have wings .

Abakus-Musik (Greifenstein) and the Brunnen-Verlag (Gießen) published the new musical Traces in the Sand - Carried by Hermann Schulze-Berndt and Siegfried Fietz on CD and sheet music in September 2011 . The world premiere took place on May 18, 2012 during the 98th German Catholic Day in Mannheim.

Also in autumn 2011, Fromm Verlag (Saarbrücken) published Hermann Schulze-Berndt's spiritual book I believe, so I pray . With the text God takes you in his arms , the author also participated in the hospice song collection of the Mainz music group KREUZ & quer with the title (in) mortal - appointment with life (CD and sheet music from Strube-Verlag). The song God takes you in his arms was published in autumn 2012 by the publishing house Wort im Bild (Altenstadt) as a greeting card with a single CD.

In 2012 the books published together with Siegfried Fietz by Brunnen-Verlag (Gießen) appeared Da I ​​carried you - Experiences and thoughts on 'Traces in the Sand' and The trace of your steps (incl. Maxi-CD). The publisher Eifelkrone (Neroth) brought the children's musical Bei der Polizei (music: Werner Totzauer) and the play and movement songs production Come, play with! Together with Klaus Bucka, Hermann Schulze-Berndt wrote one of the ten official songs of the Mannheim Catholic Day: Dare to take off again . With another four chants, the work was published by Strube-Verlag (Munich) under the title If there was no love as a CD and music book.

In 2012 Hermann Schulze-Berndt contributed six texts to the Siegfried Fietz concept album Aufbruch dare . It appeared on Abacus Music. He also worked with Siegfried Fietz on the song From Idea to Reality for a family day of the Kolping Diocesan Association in Osnabrück . Together with the song Alle Menschen sind Geschwister (from the Singspiel Blessed are you ) it was released on a single CD.

In 2013, the Eifelkrone publishing house published the children's musical The world is like a zoo with music by Werner Totzauer. Hermann Schulze-Berndt contributed 16 of the 20 lyrics to the Siegfried Fietz album I believe in the same year.

Siegfried Fietz and Hermann Schulze-Berndt created the pop oratorio The Way in the Garden of Life for the Baden-Württemberg State Garden Show 2014 in Schwäbisch Gmünd . It was premiered on May 10, 2014; it appeared simultaneously on CD and in the music book. Fietz and Schulze-Berndt wrote the song Building Bridges with Christ for the Regensburg Catholic Day in the same year . In 2016 they released their new musical "Franziskus". It was performed on May 27, 2016 at the 100th Katholikentag in Leipzig.
