Eva Lind (born June 14, 1966 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian opera singer ( soprano ) and television presenter.

life and career

Lind began her vocal training at the Tyrolean State Conservatory in Innsbruck and won the Austrian competition Jugend musiziert in 1983 . In the same year she made her debut as the flower girl in Richard Wagner's Parsifal at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck . After graduating from high school , she studied philosophy , journalism and theater studies at the University of Vienna and at the same time completed her professional training as an opera singer . Her teachers were Marta Lantieri, Ruthilde Boesch and Wilma Lipp .

In 1985, at the age of 19, she appeared as Queen of the Night in Mozart's Magic Flute at the Vienna State Opera . In the following years she sang as a member of the ensemble there a. a. the title role in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor , Sophie in Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss, Adele in Der Fledermaus by Johann Strauss and Sophie in Massenet's Werther .

Lind's international breakthrough came in the 1985/86 season as Lucia di Lammermoor at the Basel Theater . In 1986 she made her debuts at the Salzburg Festival as the Italian singer in Capriccio by Richard Strauss and at the Paris Opera Houses ( Die Zauberflöte under Daniel Barenboim , directed by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle ), Monte Carlo ( Lucia di Lammermoor ), Stuttgart ( Die Fledermaus ), Zurich , Berlin and Munich ( Die Zauberflöte ). In 1988 she first appeared at London's Royal Albert Hall and at the Glyndebourne Festival as Nannetta in Verdi's Falstaff under Bernard Haitink and directed by Sir Peter Hall. In 1991 she made her debut as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto alongside Alfredo Kraus at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville and in 1996 as Violetta in Verdi's La traviata at the Wiesbaden State Theater . In 1998 she appeared in the Arena di Verona as Oscar in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera and at La Scala in Milan as Waldvogel in Wagner's Siegfried . In 2003 and 2005 she sang the role of Marzelline in Beethoven's Fidelio there under the direction of Riccardo Muti and Werner Herzog .

On October 19, 2002 she sang the title role in the premiere of Pietro Mascagni's operetta SÌ at the Vienna Volksoper.

At the Staatstheater Stuttgart she made her role debut in 2001 as the prima donna in Donizetti's Viva la Mamma in the new production by Martin Kušej , where she sang Konstanze in Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail in a production by Hans Neuenfels in 2002, 2003 and 2004 .

Her appearance in New York's Carnegie Hall took place in September 2007, in Washington in the National Gallery of Art in December 2008. In 2012 she made her role debut as Nedda in Leoncavallos Pagliacci at the Schwerin Castle Festival . In August 2015 she made her debut in Bayreuth with a recital in the Villa Wahnfried .

Opera guest performances and concert tours take Eva Lind regularly to China . In 2003 she appeared as Konstanze in Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio with the State Theater Stuttgart in Hong Kong . In 2005 she made her role debut as Rosina in Rossini's The Barber of Seville in a guest performance by the Roman Opera at the Shanghai Grand Theater . In January 2011 she went on tour with the Berliner Symphoniker with New Year's concerts in Beijing , Shanghai , Dalian , Changsha , Hangzhou etc. a. In April 2014 she gave a series of recitals in Shanghai, Xuzhou, Dalian with the Chinese pianist Xin Sui.

Her stage partners included Plácido Domingo , José Carreras , Alfredo Kraus and many others. She also recorded several duets and music videos with Udo Jürgens . At the Hope Gala in Dresden on October 30, 2010, she performed together with Udo Lindenberg .

Eva Lind became known to the general public through her television appearances. Her first appearance was in 1983 on the ORF talent show The Big Chance . Under the musical direction of Claudio Abbado , she appeared in 1985 alongside Montserrat Caballé and Marilyn Horne in the TV production Rossini at Versailles . In 2002 she presented the Star of Tomorrow series on Arte . In 2003 and 2004 she presented and sang for ZDF in the program Advent sounds from Dresden in the Dresden Frauenkirche . From 2003 to 2008, Lind hosted the Saturday evening program Straße der Lieder on ARD together with Gotthilf Fischer . In 2009 she hosted the Dresden Opera Ball for MDR television together with Gunther Emmerlich . In October 2010 she featured in the NDR television program DAS! her book My Most Beautiful Dog Stories . She sang in the ear of her dog, which she had brought with her, to make it sing too. She also reported that she held her dog on a leash when accepting luggage for flights so that it had less weight on the scales. Both were intensely discussed by animal rights activists in particular.

Since 2010, Lind and Marc Marshall have been presenting the choir festivals on hr television . In December 2012 she appeared on ZDF as a soloist in the Christmas program Every Years by Federal President Joachim Gauck . On October 7, 2014, Eva Lind sang at the opening of the 1st International Film Festival in Potsdam . In September 2016, Eva Lind performed together with the Munich Philharmonic in the Munich Olympic Stadium as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of BMW . On July 20, 2017, she performed alongside Tom Gaebel at the opening gala of the Classic Open Air on Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt, broadcast by rbb . On September 20, 2019, Eva Lind gave the laudation for Gunther Emmerlich's life's work as part of the TV gala Goldene Henne .

Teaching

Eva Lind founded the Musikakademie Tirol in 2015 and has been a professor at the Universidade Federal do Amazonas in Manaus since March 2016 .

Eva Lind has been an ambassador for the ZNS - Hannelore Kohl Foundation since July 5, 2011 and an ambassador for CARE International since November 2014, and she supports these organizations with benefit concerts and charitable work.
