Will Humburg

Will Humburg (* 1957 in Hamburg ) is a German conductor .

Life

Will Humburg was trained by Horst Stein and Christoph von Dohnányi . From 1979 to 1983 he was Kapellmeister at the Bremen Theater , from 1983 to 1988 at the Hagen Theater . In 1988 he became artistic director of the Teatro Communale Alessandria / Piedmont and director of the Laboratorio Lirico festival for contemporary music theater in Alessandria / Piedmont. In this role he was responsible for the Italian premieres of the operas Jacob Lenz by Wolfgang Rihm , Die Weise von Liebe und Tod by Siegfried Matthus and The Martyrdom of St. Magnus by Peter Maxwell Davies .

From 1992 to 2004 Humburg was general music director of the Munster Municipal Theaters . He has made guest appearances at numerous opera houses at home and abroad and made several opera recordings for the Naxos label . Since 2009 Humburg has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania , Sicily . He has not held this position since the 2012 season. From 2014 to 2018 Will Humburg was general music director at the Staatstheater Darmstadt .
