The Tyrolean State Conservatory is a state conservatory based in the city of Innsbruck , Tyrol .

history

On July 26, 1817, Innsbruck citizens applied to the kk Landesgubernium for permission to found a “real academic music association” in their city. On April 6, 1818, the police station gave its approval, and so on June 2, 1818 the constituent assembly of the " Association for the Promotion of Music " met.

The goals of the association were on the one hand to be a "teaching institution" and on the other hand to act as a "means of transport for pleasure". The music association thus acted both as a school and as an organizer of music events.

In addition to the Tyrolean State Conservatory, the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck and the Innsbruck Music School emerged directly from the Musikverein. The association itself had to be dissolved at the time of National Socialism. Originally the music association was housed in the Lyceal, later the university building, and later in the Theresianum. Around 1870 ancillary rooms of the Redoutensaal were also used. The hope of getting some rooms and a concert hall during the construction of the Ferdinandeum was not fulfilled. The lack of space became a problem despite the "new" Musikvereinssaal, an adapted old gymnasium of the Academic Gymnasium . Finally, in 1906 the city of Innsbruck provided the reason for a new building free of charge; Construction began in 1910 and on April 16, 1912 the music club building, today's Conservatory, was inaugurated in the presence of Eugen von Österreich-Teschen .

In 1934 the music school of the Innsbrucker Musikverein was given the designation "Conservatory" by the Federal Ministry of Education in "recognition of the more than one hundred years of successful activity of the first Tyrolean music teaching institute". In 1939 the music association was practically dissolved (formally in 1941) and the music school was renamed "Music School of the Gau Capital Innsbruck". After the war, it became the Innsbruck Municipal Music School. However, it had lost its rank as a conservatory, but received it again in 1957. In 1987 the music school and the conservatory were administratively separated. Since September 1, 1990, the state of Tyrol has been the sponsor of the Tyrolean State Conservatory.

Education

In the 8-semester "artistic diploma course" (concert subject), students are trained to become soloists, orchestra and chamber musicians, opera and concert singers, conductors and composers.

In the course of the Bologna Process, the regulations for a state-valid teaching qualification for teaching at music schools require a bachelor's degree. The cooperation with the Mozarteum University in Salzburg , which has existed since the winter semester 2006/2007, ensures this internationally valid academic qualification for the IGP course.

In addition to professional studies, the Tyrolean State Conservatory also offers 6-semester extra-occupational courses in Alpine folk music , wind orchestra conducting , elementary music education and jazz and improvised music .

There are also offers such as B. Masterclasses. The Wilten Boys' Choir's vocal training also takes place at the Tyrolean State Conservatory.

Library

The library of the Tyrolean State Conservatory can be traced back to 1818. Even then, the chronicle reported a "considerable supply" of classical masses and symphonies.

The library contains around 80,000 volumes of music and over 7,000 books. There is also a historically valuable collection of autographs and books. In addition, there are the annual reports of the Musikverein (1876–1920), over 13,000 long-playing records, a photo and slide collection, concert program collections from 1866 and over 6,000 CDs. The library of the Tyrolean State Conservatory is one of the most important music collections in Western Austria.

The library is open to the public, but is not located in the building of the Tyrolean State Conservatory, but was incorporated into the community library of the House of Music in 2018 .
