history

In 1929 the Eisenstadt music school was founded by the Haydn men's choir. In 1934 the "Burgenland Music Association" took over the Eisenstadt music school under the name "Landesmusikschule" and ran it until the school year 1938/39. In the first school year 11 violin students, 30 piano students, 6 solo singing students are taught, 24 students attend children's singing. In 1939, the Eisenstadt music school was taken over by the "National Socialist Music School of the Lower Danube Gau" and Rudolf Graf was given the direction. After the decision made in 1961 to erect a suitable building, a fund for the construction of a “Joseph Haydn State Music School” was created to finance it with the state law of October 24, 1961 . The construction of the current building was completed on October 15, 1970. The total construction costs amounted to about 15 million schillings. In 1971 the state and folk music school in Eisenstadt was officially elevated to the status of the "Joseph Haydn Conservatory for Music and Performing Arts of the Province of Burgenland".

Since 2003 the Joseph Haydn Conservatory has been recognized by the European Commission as a university according to the " Erasmus University Charter " and is entitled to participate in the educational programs of the European Union at the tertiary level in the areas of student and lecturer mobility. In the course of these educational programs, u. a. also concluded cooperation agreements with conservatories in Italy ( Parma , Trapani and Venice ), Spain ( San Sebastian ), Portugal ( Porto ) and in Finland ( Lahti ).

As early as 2004, the Conservatory became the first Austrian Conservatory to become a member of the " Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen " (AEC).
