Leopold Hager
Leopold Hager (born October 6, 1935 in Salzburg , Austria ) is an Austrian musician and conductor .
Life
Hager studied piano, organ, harp, orchestral conducting and composition at the Salzburg Mozarteum from 1949 to 1957 with Bernhard Paumgartner , Gerhard Wimberger , Cesar Bresgen , Johann Nepomuk David and Egon Kornauth . From 1969 to 1981 he was the conductor of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra .
Through his interpretations of works of the Viennese Classic ( Joseph Haydn , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert ) he achieved high recognition worldwide. He also worked as conductor of the Luxembourg Radio Orchestra as the successor to Louis de Froment .

- 1957–1962 assistant conductor at the State Theater in Mainz
- 1962–1964 conductor, Landestheater Linz
- 1964–1965 conductor, opera in Cologne
- 1965–1969 general music director in Freiburg im Breisgau
- 1969–1981 chief conductor of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra
- 1981–1996 chief conductor of the Symphonesches Orchester vu Radio Lëtzebuerg
- 1992–2004 professor for orchestral conducting at the Vienna University of Music
- 2005–2008 chief conductor at the Vienna Volksoper
Awards
- 1995: Knight of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
- 2000: Great Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria
