Azio Corghi
Azio Corghi (born March 9, 1937 in Cirié ) is an Italian composer and music teacher .
The son of the painter and cartoonist Alvaro Corghi initially studied music and painting in parallel. From 1956 he studied piano with Mario Zanfi and music history with Massimo Mila at the Turin Conservatory . In 1962 he went to Milan and studied composition with Bruno Bettinelli , choral music with Amerigo Vortone and conducting with Antonio Votto at the Conservatory there . In 1967 he won the Ricordi-RAI composition competition with Intavolature .
As a composer, Corghi was primarily known for operas. He also taught at the Turin and Milan Conservatories and was awarded the Omaggio a Massimo Mila Prize by a jury led by Goffredo Petrassi . He later became a member of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and the Accademia Petrassi . His opera Blimunda, based on a libretto by the composer in collaboration with José Saramago , was premiered at La Scala in Milan in the 1989–90 season . In 1993, the musical drama Divara (Water and Blood) premiered in Münster.
For the international piano competition Umberto Micheli , Corghi composed the concert study ... ça ira! . His opera Tatjana based on a novella by Anton Chekhov was commissioned by La Scala in Milan . For the RAI orchestra, Amori incrociati was composed in 2000 after the Decameron in a version by Aldo Busi . The Accademia di Santa Cecilia, directed by Luciano Berio, commissioned him to compose De paz e de guerra based on a libretto by Saramago. On behalf of the Accademia Chigiana , ¿Pia? , a music-dramatic dialogue based on Marguerite Yourcenar's Dialogue in the Swamp , which was performed at the Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena. In 2007, the Filarmonica della Scala under Riccardo Chailly gave the world premiere of the Poema Sinfonico , which Corghi had composed for the 25th anniversary of the orchestra. The Ensemble Punto It commissioned him to compose the opera Giocasta based on Sophocles ' Oedipus Rex , which premiered in 2009.
