Gunther Emmerlich
Gunther Emmerlich (born September 18, 1944 in Eisenberg , Thuringia ) is a German singer ( bass ) and presenter .
Live and act
Gunther Emmerlich grew up with his older sister after the early death of his parents. His father did not return from the war and his mother died when he was twelve. After graduating from high school and training as a concrete worker , he first studied at the engineering school for construction in Erfurt . After breaking off this training, Emmerlich turned to music and studied opera singing at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Weimar from 1967 to 1972 . During this time he appeared as a jazz singer on the program “ Central Bank” of GDR television . Emmerlich has lived in Dresden since 1972. From 1972 to 1992 he was a member of the Dresden Opera ensemble . One of his star roles was Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail , and in 1982 he sang in Axion esti in a celebrated performance in Leipzig, conducted by the composer Mikis Theodorakis .
He became known on GDR television as the host of the Showkolade program (1987 to 1990). Emmerlich appears as a presenter and guest of numerous German entertainment programs, for example he moderated the show Magic Home for years .
From 2006 to 2015 he moderated the Semper Opera Ball in the Semper Opera House in Dresden and since 2004 the TV gala Krone der Volksmusik . He is a member of the Semper House Band, which consists mainly of musicians from the Staatskapelle Dresden and is dedicated to jazz .
In 2007 Emmerlich published his book I wanted to let myself finish speaking , which was followed by a second book in 2010 with the title encore and in 2016 a third with the title Spätlese . He is working on a fourth book with the working title "Advanced".
Emmerlich is an ambassador for the Carreras Leukemia Foundation and a wine ambassador for Saale and Unstrut . He is an honorary citizen of his native Eisenberg .
In 2012 he starred in the ARD series In all friendship .
Emmerlich has lived in the Villa Maria in the Weißer Hirsch district of Dresden since 1979 . He was married to the actress Anne-Kathrein Emmerlich (1948–2020), from whom he had been separated since 2014. She gave birth to a daughter. He has a son with her, a son from a previous relationship, ten granddaughters and a great-grandson.
In 2000, he was voted one of the “100 Dresdeners of the 20th Century” in the daily newspaper Dresdner Latest Nachrichten .
