Showkolade was the title of a TV show that was broadcast on GDR television on 13 Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. between 1987 and 1990 . The show was moderated by singer Gunther Emmerlich .

The studied opera singer ( bass voice ) Gunther Emmerlich had already appeared in a television program of the entertainment genre in 1971. In 1987, Emmerlich caught the attention of the entertainment editors of GDR television in the program Pfundgrube presented by Gisela May with a jazz interpretation and his quick-witted answers. Within a short period of time, Uwe Belz developed a show concept consisting of a talk show and music performances and went on air in autumn 1987 under the title Showkolade and moderated by Emmerlich. Among the regular contributors to the included cabaret artist Wolfgang Stumph , the cabaret group Zwinger Trio and the dancer of the GDR TV ballet Nadja pulse, in the style of by Jean-Etienne Liotard painted chocolate girl audiences chocolate offered.

Due to Emmerlich's moderation, which was sometimes critical in terms of time, the program was popular with GDR audiences, but was under observation by state organs. Unlike similar entertainment programs on GDR television such as Ein Kessel Buntes , the show colade was not broadcast live, but rather broadcast as a recording. This made it possible to remove parts of Emmerlich's moderation that the state organs disliked. These arranged cuts were made in an intentionally conspicuous manner.

In 1989 the songwriter Reinhard Mey was invited. His first appearance in the GDR was to take place without the song Over the Clouds , as the word "freedom" in it was undesirable. His appearance took place on November 11, 1989 in Dresden for the ninth broadcast. After the fall of the Berlin Wall two days earlier, he was allowed to give a lecture above the clouds , as well as "Good night friends".

Emmerlich mentioned in a broadcast the GDR the land of previously impossible limitations.

Up to 1990 a total of 13 programs were produced and broadcast at various venues (usually theaters and opera houses, including the Semperoper Dresden , theaters in Karl-Marx-Stadt, Zwickau, Altenburg, Gera, Meiningen, Schwerin, Stralsund, Rostock). The audience ratings were up to 26%.
