A Kessel Buntes was a Saturday evening show on the television of the GDR , later the ARD, which ran for almost 21 years.
history
The entertainment program was first broadcast on GDR-F1 on January 29, 1972 (Editor: Evelin Matt ). It was produced six times a year in various large halls, mostly in Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast , but also in the Palast der Republik , the Kulturpalast Dresden , the Stadthalle Cottbus or the Kulturhaus Gera . “The Kessel” , as it was often briefly called, alternated monthly with “ There is music in it ” . The show was supposed to be a figurehead for GDR entertainment and, at prime time , compete with the Saturday evening programs of ARD and ZDF , which is why no expense was spared in engaging international stars. These included, for example, Mireille Mathieu , Dalida , Precious Wilson , ABBA , The Rubettes , Penny McLean , Showaddywaddy , Racey and Katja Ebstein .
Initially, the cabaret trio called “ Die Drei Dialektiker ” led Manfred Uhlig , Lutz Stückrath and Horst Köbbert through the show. Later, “Ein Kessel Buntes” was characterized by a continuous change of moderators, including Monika Hauff and Klaus-Dieter Henkler , Dagmar Frederic , Helga Hahnemann , Willi Schwabe , Petra Kusch-Lück , Wolfgang Lippert , Günter Schubert , Heinz Rennhack and Gunter Sonneson and OF Weidling .
Soviet and Czechoslovak television also broadcast this program. After the reunification of Germany, the concept and name of the program were adopted by ARD , which broadcasted “Ein Kessel Buntes” with the presenter Karsten Speck on January 12, 1991 a total of ten times. Frank Schöbel also moderated the show once during this time . The last edition ran on December 19, 1992.
A total of almost 11,000 participants, including moderators, artists, actors, singers, dancers and musicians, were involved in the 118 editions in over twenty years.
