OF Weidling
OF Weidling (born August 2, 1924 in Piesau ; † January 6, 1985 in Dresden ; actually Otto Franz Weidling ) was a presenter and emcee on television in the GDR .
Life
Weidling began his stage career in 1955. The talkshow Treff mit OF , which he invented and moderated, made him finally popular in the early 1980s.
OF Weidling, whose trademark was the black tuxedo jacket with red lining, was loved by the audience for his biting satire criticism of the economic and political conditions in the GDR (e.g .: “Our national team played against the USSR, we did won, we have already apologized for it ... ").
When he opened the new Friedrichstadt-Palast as a moderator in front of the party and state leadership in East Berlin on April 27, 1984, SED economic director Günter Mittag disliked some of Weidling's points directed against him. In the repetition of the television recording, not only the critical statements but almost all of the scenes in which Weidling appeared were cut out. OF Weidling was banned from television in the GDR and effectively banned from working.
A short time later, on January 6, 1985, OF Weidling died of several serious illnesses. He was buried in the Heidefriedhof in Dresden with great public sympathy .

The son Carsten Weidling , born in 1966, is a writer, globetrotter and also a television presenter and hosted the talk show " Riverboat " on MDR .
