Racey was a British pop band that, like many other bands of the 1970s, were produced by the then popular Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and embodied their typical sound.
Band history
The group was founded in 1977 in Weston-super-Mare / Somerset . When the first hit Lay Your Love on Me hit the charts , the musicians had been playing in unsuccessful combos for a long time. The composer Mickie Most as well as Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman worked with the band and , in addition to Lay Your Love on Me, also produced the second Racey hit Some Girls . Then it came to the separation of Chinn and Chapman, Most remained with the band as a producer .
With the single Boy Oh Boy Racey had another European success in 1979, Such a Night rose to the German top 20 in the same year. With Rest of My Life and Runaround Sue (both 1980) and Shame (1981), the British made it onto the chart in Germany, with Runaround Sue the band was even in the English Top 20, but Racey could not build on the old successes.
When the interest waned, the band split up in 1985. In 1990 there was a comeback attempt . Racey played sold-out concerts with Pete Miller and new keyboardist Ian Hewitt. Pete Miller died on May 6, 2003 and was replaced by Richard Blake.
