history

Emergence

The name Riglasreuth comes from the syllable -reuth, which means something like cleared. Riglas could have been the name of the settlement leader or a similarly important person.

Riglasreuth is located on the Fichtelnaab . Riglasreuth was first mentioned in a document on February 13, 1061. At that time, King Heinrich IV gave his ministerial Otnant von Eschenau a piece of forest in the Nordgau . At that time rivers were used to determine the boundaries. The river "Crumbanaba" (today Fichtelnaab) was one of these border rivers. The name can still be found in today's town of Krummennaab .

The area around the Fichtelnaab was also an ideal settlement area: thanks to its hydropower, the river was ideally suited for processing ore. The stream and river valleys mostly had no or very thin forest, which made clearing these areas much easier.

The second documented mention in 1283 reports a "Hammer Riglasreuth", which indicates a hammer mill. Duke Ludwig the Strict acquired Waldeck Castle at that time .

At that time, Riglasreuth was one of the most important ore mining areas in the Upper Palatinate. The processing of brown iron from the area in Riglasreuth has been proven as early as the 13th century. The Fichtelnaab provided water power to shape the metals, and the firewood was felled in the stone forest . Riglasreuth delivered black sheets to Amberg , which were then processed into tin sheets. In the 17th century, the European ore industry fell into crisis because of the Thirty Years' War and a lack of ore and wood deposits.

In 1666 the Riglasreuther hammer mill burned down. At some point, a new hammer mill must have been built, according to records from 1730.

local community

The Riglasreuth community was founded in 1849. At that time there was a devastating big fire in the village. The Fichtelgebirgsbahn was established in 1878 and still characterizes the townscape today. With the establishment of the Riglasreuth Volunteer Fire Brigade in 1879, the community drew consequences from the large fire of 1849. The school from 1890 was closed in 1968. In 1919 electrical lines were laid. In 1922 there was another big fire that destroyed the entire town center except for the church and a farm. With the laying of the water pipes in 1952, hydrants could also be built and the now disbanded volunteer fire brigade could be re-established. In 1955 the SV Riglasreuth was founded, which built a sports field the following year. The incorporation of the Riglasreuth community into the Neusorg community took place on January 1, 1978 on the occasion of the municipal reform .
